Trent Reznor Joins Forces With Beats by Dre for ‘A Number of Very Interesting Projects’

Sean Gardner / Christopher Polk, Getty Images Trent Reznor continues to expand his horizons, and he’s now teaming up with hip-hop icon Dr. Dre to contribute to the latter’s Beats by Dre company. The Nine Inch Nails  mastermind revealed in a new posting that he’s joined forces with the headphone maker on several projects that will begin to surface in 2013. During a recent press event, the company announced that Reznor has taken on a consulting role, joining with rap icon Dr. Dre, music mogul Jimmy Iovine and Beats by Dre president Luke Wood in defining the future products to come. According to the Hollywood Reporter , Iovine, Dre and Wood made the announcement while rolling out new products at a press event in New York City. As for his involvement with the company, Reznor played coy for the time being, confirming that while he was taking part in the product development, there was nothing he could share as of yet. In a Facebook post, he wrote: Some of you may have read that I have begun working with Beats by Dre. For the past year I have indeed been involved with Dre, Jimmy Iovine, Luke Wood, and the rest of the team on a number of very interesting projects that will start to emerge next year. I have been wanting to experiment and focus my energy and creativity in some different directions, and Beats has afforded me that very opportunity. The process has been challenging and fascinating and as much as I’d like to tell you about the things we’ve dreamed up … I just can’t. ?Not yet …? (I can tell you it’s probably not what you’re expecting!) The speculation can begin on how Reznor’s partnership will play into his musical output. In the meantime, he is set to release a new EP from his band How to Destroy Angels  later this year, and he also confirmed earlier this year that he’s started work on new Nine Inch Nails music , as well. 10 Best Nine Inch Nails Songs

Frank Micelotta, Getty Images After a creative detour into the world of soundtrack scoring over the last few years, Trent Reznor is ready to revive Nine Inch Nails , and because of that we're going to count down the 10 Best Nine Inch Nails Songs. One thing is for certain, Reznor has kept things interesting over the years. He's explored industrial dance tracks ('Down in It' and 'Sin'), worked through some thrashier moments ('March of the Pigs,' 'Wish' and 'Head Like a Hole'), and dug deep into the soul for some deeply emotional catharsis ('Hurt,' 'Something I Can Never Have'). He's questioned both political ('Capital G,' 'The Hand That Feeds') and religious ('Terrible Lie') leaders, and all the while sustained a loyal following always anxious to see where he taking things next. So step right up and check out the 10 Best Nine Inch Nails Songs. ? 10 'Survivalism' From: 'Year Zero' (2007) ? ? Trent Reznor not only adapted with the times for 2007 album, 'Year Zero,' he ventured beyond and incorporated a futuristic concept for the disc. The blips and beeps of electro-aggression of 'Survivalism' set the pace throughout, while Reznor tells a futuristic tale of processing the images we're presented on a daily basis. He exclaims, “ I got my propaganda / I got my revisionism / I got my violence in hi-def ultra-realism / All a part of this great nation / I got my fist / I got my plan / I got survivalism .” Listen to 'Survivalism' ? ? 9 'Sin' From: 'Pretty Hate Machine' (1989) ? ? After 'Down in It' and 'Head Like a Hole' found success in the clubs, Nine Inch Nails chose the ultra-danceable, synth-led track 'Sin' as the final single from 'Pretty Hate Machine.' Reznor dips into themes of sexual control, belting such lines as “ You give me the anger / You give me the nerve / Carry out my sentence / While I get what I deserve .” Listen to 'Sin' ? ? 8 'The Hand That Feeds' From: 'With Teeth' (2005) ? ? After years of railing against his own demons, Trent Reznor turned his attention elsewhere with 2005's 'With Teeth.' The breakout single from the disc, 'The Hand That Feeds,' turned the spotlight on the human race's following of political and social leaders, with Reznor challenging the listener, “ Just how deep do you believe? / Will you bite the hand that feeds? / Will you chew until it bleeds? / Can you get up off your knees? / Are you brave enough to see? / Do you want to change it? “ Listen to 'The Hand That Feeds' ? ? 7 'March of the Pigs' From: 'The Downward Spiral' (1994) ? ? 'March of the Pigs' is a must for the 10 Best Nine Inch Nails Songs, as it shows Trent Reznor's musical growth. The track delivers sleepy piano breakdowns, Chris Vrenna's percussive onslaught, and a blast of aggression that has made the song a circle pit favorite. In the one-shot video for the track, Reznor couldn't contain the adrenaline, thrashing about into his fellow musicians and tossing the microphone away on multiple occasions leaving stagehands to retrieve it for him. Listen to 'March of the Pigs' ? ? 6 'Down In It' From: 'Pretty Hate Machine' (1989) ? ? 'Down In It' is a perfect choice for the Top 10 Nine Inch Nails Songs, as it was the track the officially kicked everything off for the band. It was issued as a teaser cut prior to their breakout hit 'Head Like a Hole,' and gave a glimpse of how the band could find a blend between heavy industrial music and something more club-oriented. Listen to 'Down in It' ? ? 5 'Closer' From: 'The Downward Spiral' (1994) ? ? Nine Inch Nails hit on something in the summer of '94 when 'Closer' became a monster hit. The funky track with the morphed bass and drum line definitely hooked listeners, but both radio and TV needed edits for the profanity-laced lyrical and sexually explicit visual content that came with the song and video. Even with the edits, the track went on to become one of the biggest songs of their career. Listen to 'Closer' ? ? 4 'Terrible Lie' From: 'Pretty Hate Machine' (1989) ? ? 'Terrible Lie' has become one of Nine Inch Nails' live favorites over the years, with the track frequently either kicking off or near the front of the band's sets. Reznor's early angst is on full display here, asking the big questions about faith and religion, begging for a sign of a higher power, and becoming dismayed when his questions aren't answered. Listen to 'Terrible Lie' ? ? 3 'Wish' From: 'Broken' EP (1992) ? ? Nine Inch Nails were in full industrial mode with 'Wish,' a thrashy gem of a track that blended Trent Reznor's tormented vocal delivery with a full on guitar assault. Oddly enough, Grammy voters got behind Nine Inch Nails ahead of their massive fame, rewarding the band with 1993's Best Metal Performance Grammy for 'Wish.' According to the book 'Nine Inch Nails: Self Destruct,' Reznor would later joke that his epitaph should read: “Reznor: Died. Said 'fist f—' and won a Grammy.” Listen to 'Wish' ? ? 2 'Hurt' From: 'The Downward Spiral' (1994) ? ? Not all of Nine Inch Nails' songs got their intensity from the instruments. The minimalist track 'Hurt' was every bit as heavy as the band's other work, and definitely packed an emotional punch. The track accurately portrayed isolation and depression, with Reznor often performing the song alone at the center of the stage with horrific images flashing on a screen behind him. The track took on even more resonance when legendary country crooner Johnny Cash made it one of his final recordings. Listen to 'Hurt' ? ? 1 'Head Like a Hole' From: 'Pretty Hate Machine' (1989) ? ? We bow down before the first big hit that Nine Inch Nails served. 'Head Like a Hole,' with its synth bass meets primal scream sound effects, proved to be an interesting concoction. It borrowed industrial influence from Ministry , but also had elements of thrash metal in it. Lyrically, Trent Reznor was in full snarl, raging against the almighty “God Money.” Reznor says in the song, “ You're going to get what you deserve ,” and what 'Head Like a Hole' deserves is the No. 1 spot in our Top 10 Nine Inch Nails Songs. Listen to 'Head Like a Hole' ? ? What Is Your Favorite Nine Inch Nails Song? There you have it – the 10 Best Nine Inch Nails Songs, in our humble opinion. Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor Offers Insight Into How to Destroy Angels

Facebook: How To Destroy Angels Trent Reznor is a man who wears many hats. Along with fronting the legendary Nine Inch Nails , Reznor has lent his talents to composing film scores, original music for video games, and has produced albums for Marilyn Manson and Jane’s Addiction . Reznor latest project is an upcoming EP from his group How to Destroy Angels. For those of you who are unfamiliar with How to Destroy Angels, the group consists of Reznor, fellow Academy Award winner Atticus Ross (who composed the film soundtrack for ‘The Social Network’ and ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ with Reznor), Nine Inch Nails art director Rob Sheridan and vocalist Mariqueen Maandig, who also happens to be Trent Reznor’s beautiful wife. The band released a self-titled EP in 2010, with their second one, ‘An Omen EP’ to see a release in November. “We’ve been working on this kind of in the shadows throughout ‘The Social Network’ and ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ soundtracks since the core people are all kind of in the same area,” says Reznor in an interview with BBC1 Radio. “We’ve just been chipping away at this thing, and it’s been a nice pressure release valve really to have something to dump this energy into that doesn’t fit the other containers. It’s been fun. He continues, “We’ve just been playing around with the idea of the way that people consume music and listen to it and how big the chunks are. I think coming off of releasing ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ soundtrack that clocked in at 2 hours, we thought let’s do something that’s more manageable, digestible little bits here.” Reznor also speaks about an upcoming 2013 full-length for How to Destroy Angels. “Part of what’s on the EP is taken from a full-length record that’s 98% finished. That’s scheduled for a release at the beginning of next year.” Yesterday, How To Destroy Angels released ‘Keep It Together’ as the first single from ‘The Omen EP.’ Click below to listen: [button href=”http://loudwire.com/trent-reznor-how-to-destroy-angels-new-single-keep-it-together/” title=”Listen to How To Destroy Angels, ‘Keep it Together'” align=”center”]

Trent Reznor’s How to Destroy Angels Set to Release New EP

Facebook: How To Destroy Angels Trent Reznor ’s multi-faceted creative collective known as How to Destroy Angels have announced their plans to release their latest disc titled ‘An Omen EP,’ due Nov. 13 digitally and on 12″ vinyl. The six-song EP will be released via Columbia Records. How to Destroy Angels is made up of Reznor, his wife Mariqueen Maandig, Atticus Ross, who shares the Academy Award with Reznor for their score of ‘The Social Network,’ and visual artist Rob Sheridan, who previously worked as creative director for Nine Inch Nails . So judging by all accounts this lineup serves as much more than just a band. Reznor posted an open letter on his Facebook page touching on all the details and confirming that their upcoming plans include making some new videos and performing live – something that Reznor had showed some apprehension about in the past while still remaining excited about the next chapter in his career. He also comments on his decision to return to a major label with the new project and how it compares to an independent release. Read Reznor’s letter below: Sorry for the radio silence lately… I’ve been busy! There’s a number of things to be revealed over the coming months. Some you may expect, others you may not. Patience, my friends. Today’s news is about my band How to Destroy Angels. I’m happy to announce we’ve formally partnered with Columbia Records for our next series of releases. The first of these will be available in November and it’s called ‘An Omen EP.’ As you may have guessed, it’s an EP. It contains six songs, some of which are from our full-length LP which is coming early next year. We are making some videos, we are going to be performing live, and that’s all the details I have for now on those matters. Regarding our decision to sign with Columbia, we’ve really spent a long time thinking about things and it makes sense for a lot of reasons, including a chance to work with our old friend Mark Williams. There’s a much more granular and rambling answer I could give (and likely will in an interview someplace) but it really comes down to us experimenting and trying new things to see what best serves our needs. Complete independent releasing has its great points but also comes with shortcomings. We are all very excited about you checking out the new stuff. Wish I could tell you more, but you know how this works … it would take all the fun out of it! In addition to the EP, the band is planning a full-length release with a target release date of spring 2013. For all the latest on How to Destroy Angels follow them on Twitter and Facebook .
