Ian Gavan, Getty Images Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins will remain behind bars after the Cardiff Crown Court denied his appeal for bail Thursday (Jan. 10). The Mirror reports that the singer, who was arrested late last year for alleged sex offenses relating to minors, appeared via video link from Parc Prison in Bridgend and Judge Eleri Reese denied his plea. With the ruling, Watkins will now remain in custody until at least his next plea hearing, which is scheduled for later this month. The vocalist has been charged with two incidents of conspiring to engage in sexual touching with two young children and another four offenses of possessing and distributing indecent images of children. Watkins bandmates issued a statement at the time of his December arrest, explaining, “We find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers.” The band called off their scheduled tour after the singer’s arrest. The group has been supporting their 2012 album, ‘Weapons.’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/lostprophets-vocalist-ian-watkins-to-remain-in-police-custody-on-child-sex-charges/” title=”Next: Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Held in Police Custody” align=”center”] ?
PETA Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro has long been an activist for animal rights, and now the guitarist is proving it in his latest campaign for PETA. In a spot geared towards exposing the cruelty of animals led by the cosmetic industry, the rocker bares all in a squeamish series of photos. Throughout the photo series, Navarro can be seen simulating the torture animals endure at the hands of humans in the quest for perfecting cosmetics and household cleaners. Images of Navarro, like the one seen above, bleeding from the eye with patches of flesh ripped off and bleeding, accompany the message PETA is promoting, ‘Animal Testing Kills: Choose Cruelty-Free.’ The campaign not only calls out the heinous testing methods but helps promote cruelty free testing throughout the industry. In the behind the scenes clip below posted by PETA, Navarro talks about his first exposure to cruelty free makeup and how he learned about the inhumane practices, leading to his quest to become an advocate for the animals. “They’re not taking a bunny rabbit and putting mascara on it. They’re injecting a chemical directly into its eye to see what kind of adverse reaction happens to it,” Navarro explained in the interview. “In many cases, parts of their body are ripped open. They’re all alive, and they’re all aware. It’s torture for the animal, it’s terrifying and painful and probably one of the cruelest things done in the name of vanity.” This doesn’t mark the first time that Navarro has geared down for PETA though and if we were betting folk, probably not the last. He also participated in PETA’s ‘ Ink, Not Mink ‘ campaign, protesting the fur industry. Watch the clip below to see Navarro behind the scenes at his gory photo shoot and to learn more about cruelty-free animal testing, but be warned, it’s not for the faint at heart, as it contains some graphic images of animals. Ethan Miller / Theo Wargo, Getty Images The Loudwire Top 20 Countdown is back this week with a familiar face at No. 1. Shinedown ‘s hit song ‘Enemies’ is spending its third straight week on top and fourth week overall. With ‘Enemies’ still at No. 1, Avenged Sevenfold remain in a holding pattern at No. 2 with their quickly rising single, ‘Carry On.’ Meanwhile, Soundgarden ‘s slide out of the top five (they fall to No. 6 with ‘Been Away Too’) proved beneficial for three songs that all moved up a notch. All That Remains currently hold down the No. 3 position with ‘Stand Up,’ Volbeat scoot back up to No. 4 with ‘Heaven Nor Hell’ and Chevelle ‘s ‘Same Old Trip’ reaches its highest position yet at No. 5. Even though Soundgarden fell three notches, they weren’t the biggest dropper. That distinction goes to former Top 5 single ‘Standing in the Sun’ from Slash . It falls from No. 7 to No. 11 this week. The biggest risers belong to 3 Doors Down ‘s ‘One Light,’ Adelitas Way ‘s ‘Alive,’ Young Guns ‘ ‘Bones’ and Alice in Chains ‘ ‘Hollow,’ all of which jumped up two spots this week. 3 Doors Down, Adelitas Way and Young Guns now hold down the No. 8-10 spots on the countdown, while Alice in Chains’ ‘Hollow’ leaps up from 18 to 16. This week’s chart also features the arrival of Hinder ‘s ‘Save Me,’ which lands at No. 18. Ethan Miller, Getty Images In recent years, many in the music industry have rallied around Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, more commonly known in the media as the West Memphis Three. The three men were freed from death row in 2011 after spending 18 questionable years in prison for the alleged murders of three boys. Now, their fight to bring the truth to light is the subject of the documentary film ‘West of Memphis.’ The film is bolstered with a star-studded soundtrack filled with music from some of their supporters and Loudwire is exclusively premiering Camp Freddy ‘s cover of David Bowie ‘s ‘The Jean Genie.’ Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro , one of the trio’s longtime supporters, is also a member of the all-star covers band Camp Freddy and the group was more than happy to lend their cover of ‘The Jean Genie’ to the film. Over the years, Navarro became friends with Echols, in particular, and learned that Bowie was one of the inmate’s favorite artists to listen to while serving his time. The Camp Freddy version of the track features some wailing guitar work from Navarro and Billy Morrison, along with special guest guitarist Steve Stevens, plus a thumping bass line from Chris Chaney. Meanwhile, singer Donovan Leitch Jr. displays a swagger and bravado that Bowie originally brought to the track. In addition to Camp Freddy, the ‘West of Memphis: Voices of Justice’ soundtrack, which arrives Jan. 15, features cuts from Marilyn Manson , Eddie Vedder , Henry Rollins , Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, Band of Horses , Bob Dylan , Natalie Maines and more. The soundtrack CD arrives on Jan. 15 and can be pre-ordered at Amazon or iTunes , while the film is currently showing in select theaters. Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Shinedown have enjoyed a successful career since arriving on the scene in 2003, releasing four hit-filled albums along the way. Now, we want to know which of their albums is the best. The group’s musical debut came with the 2003 album, ‘Leave a Whisper.’ Shinedown immediately caught hold at rock radio with ‘Fly From the Inside,’ a track that went Top 5. That was followed by three more Top 5 hits – the brutal rocker ’45,’ their cover of Lynyrd’s Skynyrd ‘s ‘Simple Man’ and the album’s biggest single, ‘Burning Bright.’ The band’s sophomore set, ‘Us and Them,’ arrived in 2005 with three more hit songs. ‘Save Me’ led the way, becoming the band’s first-ever chart-topping single. It was followed by the uplifting ‘I Dare You’ and the edgy rocker ‘Heroes,’ which also went Top 5 at rock radio. Shinedown’s third album, ‘The Sound of Madness,’ took them to new heights in 2008. The disc, which was the band’s first with a reconfigured lineup, launched with a trio of chart-topping singles — the hard-rocking ‘Devour,’ the rock ballad ‘Second Chance’ and the melodic title track. The song also spawned a fourth chart-topper, ‘The Crow and the Butterfly,’ which followed the heartfelt track ‘If You Only Knew.’ And then there’s Shinedown’s fourth and most recent album, ‘Amaryllis.’ The disc dropped in early 2012 with the rocking first single ‘Bully,’ followed by the moving track ‘Unity’ and the aggressive angst-ridden ‘Enemies.’ There you have it — four very successful albums from Shinedown. Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor revealed last fall that he had been working with sound specialists Beats by Dre on something pretty special and now we know what that is. Longtime music mogul Jimmy Iovine confirmed at a Beats by Dre event that Reznor is contributing to Daisy, a new music streaming service that has yet to launch. Spin reports that Reznor’s title is Chief Creative Officer and that the service will feature music brought to listener’s ears by Beats Electronic, which Iovine co-founded. Though he didn’t detail exactly what Reznor’s duties would entail, Iovine stated that the musician would play a large role in Daisy’s look and feel and will focus his energies toward “the connection between the artist and the consumer.” Iovine added, “What’s missing from the digital music landscape is the cultural context. We need to bring an emotional connection back to the act of music discovery. With Trent and now [Daisy CEO Ian Rogers] we have the right team in place to do it.” At present, the Daisy streaming service is tentatively expected to launch in the second half of 2013. Even with the new gig, Reznor remains committed to creating music. It was just announced that his How to Destroy Angels band will offer their first full-length album, ‘ Welcome Oblivion ,’ on March 5. In addition, Reznor mentioned recently that he was working on new music from Nine Inch Nails.
