Liz Ramanand, Loudwire On day three of the continuous party that is Shiprocked 2012 on the MSC Poesia, rockers and fans alike woke up in the sunny Nassau, Bahamas. Sevendust frontman Lajon Witherspoon was excited to go snorkeling in the morning while Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D. enjoyed an escape to Atlantis. Lit frontman A.J. Popoff took an even more romantic route as he took the opportunity to propose to his girlfriend on the trip. Others took the time in the Bahamas to catch up on some much needed sleep after the continuous nights of drinking and moshing but when 6PM rolled around, everyone made sure they got their butt on board in time to catch Five Finger Death Punch ’s second performance of the cruise. Five Finger Death Punch put on a kickass set outside on the Deck Stage and had fans belting out songs so loud that the sound must have infiltrated the two boring ships we were docked alongside, as well as the natives and tourists of the Bahamas on land. Frontman Ivan Moody demanded a mosh pit and he definitely got one during the song ‘White Knuckles.’ The band’s ability to evoke various emotions in fans with their very personal stage presence is quite a sight to see. Godsmack put on one hell of a second show as well in the boat’s main indoor venue, the Carlo Felice Theater. Their first performance which kicked off the cruise was an acoustic set but this one was filled with powerful riffs and wild drum patterns that we all know when we hear Godsmack’s music. Other performances of the night included Pop Evil and Helmet’s first sets of the cruise. Filter was supposed to hit the Deck Stage at midnight but it was rescheduled due to some serious rainfall and gusty winds as the ship stayed docked in the Bahamas throughout the night. Isaac Brekken, Getty Images Nickelback ‘s ‘Photograph’ was everywhere you turned a few years back, much like the Instagram photos that you happen to see posted across just about every social networking platform you can find today. So it makes perfect sense that ‘Photograph’ and Instagram are lumped together to create a new song parody. College Humor is behind the new song and video, ‘Look at This Instagram,’ which mocks the inane objects that people attempt to photograph using the filtered option on the camera phones. While the song takes a jab at the Instagram craze, Nickelback doesn’t exactly get off the hook either. Yes the lyrics are altered to fit the message, but the vocals are where the band gets knocked a bit. It’s obvious that the male and female leads of the clip have had their vocals manipulated to achieve the Chad Kroeger -like sound. Ethan Miller, Getty Images / Getty Images Mastodon have the wheels in motion for their follow-up to ‘The Hunter’ album, but at least one of their forthcoming songs (and perhaps more) may have a more child-friendly slant that the rest of their material. That’s because the group is reportedly working on music for the upcoming ‘Monsters Inc.’ prequel, ‘Monsters University.’ The band revealed the news in a Facebook posting (which appears to have since been removed), as reported by Metal Injection . The movie itself is set 10 years prior to the hit Pixar film, which debuted back in 2001. It follows the story of Sulley and Mike as they attend school and plan their future careers. The movie is set for a June 21 release next summer. Mastodon did not elaborate beyond the fact that they were “writing and recording a song for the new ‘Monsters, Inc.’ movie,” but the timing appears to be right as Brent Hinds recently revealed that the group has already started writing and coming up with ideas for their next album. YouTube: Metallica Metallica fans are a devoted bunch and you get to see their passion for the band in full effect in the newly posted video of ‘Master of Puppets’ that’s part of the upcoming ‘ Quebec Magnetic ‘ DVD. The group deliver a blistering performance musically, but James Hetfield , perhaps encouraged by the audience response, lets the crowd fill in some of the vocal parts on ‘Master of Puppets’ while he and the band let loose with their furious playing. The song is definitely a highlight of the forthcoming release. Metallica headed to Quebec City in the fall of 2009 as part of their ‘World Magnetic Tour’ and the shows were filmed for the forthcoming DVD/Blu-Ray offering, ‘Quebec Magnetic,’ which will be in stores Dec. 10. This will be the band’s first release via their new Blackened Recordings label. The group recently announced the launch of the label in coordination with the news that they had taken control of the masters of their past recordings, giving the band full access over how their music is used going forward. Part of having control means the band can offer their concert film at the reasonable price of $15.98 for either the DVD or Blu-Ray format. Puscifer Entertainment Prolific musical mastermind and fresh-faced feature columnist Maynard James Keenan has just posted the latest installment of his Phoenix New Times bi-weekly blog. Keenan seems to be given a great deal of freedom when it comes to the subjects he chooses to cover for his column, and in this edition, the musician addresses his reputation for being a notoriously difficult interview. With Maynard Keenan receiving a massive amount of attention for each of his three bands, Tool , A Perfect Circle and Puscifer , journalists are constantly attempting to grab a moment of Keenan’s time. Approaching the 30 year mark as an active musician, Maynard has done his fair share of interviews, famously locking up when not being stimulated by the art of conversation. In Keenan’s latest blog, the singer recounts a discussion that took place between him and the co-author of his upcoming “semi-autobiography.” “She’d been browsing through some press clippings from ?recent years, and after the business end of our conversation, she commented on how forthcoming I was during her interview. She said it stood in direct contrast to some — but not all — of my tight-lipped discourse she’d found online. Her guess was that the journalists in question lacked enthusiasm. Her understatement was correct. This is not the case with all journalists I’ve encountered, but unfortunately, it’s the norm.” He continues, “The awesome writers strike up a conversation and my publicist has to cut us off ‘cuz we’re having too much fun. We call these people journalists. The lazy ones have a list of questions to which they’ve already anticipated the answers, so they don’t bother listening to my responses. We call these people never again.” “There seems to be an epidemic raging out there,” adds Keenan. “A whole lot of people are calling themselves professionals who really have no business doing so … Their skill is squeaking and moaning in order to get their way. Which is fine with me. It makes for easier targets.” Maynard fans are anxiously awaiting for the next Tool album, which is expected to see a 2013 release . The trek launches Jan. 20 in Bethlehem, Pa., with Stone Sour closing out the shows. Stone Sour have spent much of the latter half of 2012 promoting their ‘ House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 1 ‘ album, which has already spawned the hit singles ‘Absolute Zero’ and ‘Gone Sovereign.’ The timing for the tour works out perfectly for them as it will lead up to the release of ‘House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 2,’ which is expected in the spring. At present, the band is receiving positive reviews as they trek across Europe. Papa Roach, who also are enjoying a successful European run at the moment, have rebounded quite well after singer Jacoby Shaddix ‘s vocal surgery earlier this year. The group issued their hit album, ‘ The Connection ,’ featuring the hard-hitting single ‘ Still Swingin’ ,’ over the summer and have also received some love for the track ‘ Before I Die ‘ off the album. This will be the group’s first major run through North America in support of their latest release. Joining the two bands on the run will be one of 2012′s breakout bands, Otherwise , who are promoting their ‘ True Love Never Dies ‘ album.
