2013 Coachella Fest Boasts Red Hot Chili Peppers, How to Destroy Angels, Social Distortion + More

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com (x2) / Spencer Kaufman, Loudwire After months of anticipation and many fictitious rumors, the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival has revealed its official 2013 lineup. The diverse group of performers run the creative gamut from rock to indie to electronica and more, all while mixing the best of new artists on the rise with veteran artists in their prime. Coachella has become such a hot commodity in the music community that it’s now offered twice during back to back weekends in the spring. Set for April 12-14 and April 19-21 in Indio, Calif., the 2013 rock contingent includes Red Hot Chili Peppers serving as the headliner on the Sunday of each weekend. After a bit of a break, the Chili Peppers returned in 2011 with their latest disc ‘I’m With You,’ their first since 2006’s ‘Stadium Arcadium.’ Coachella usually offers up a handful of surprises in the form of reunions or first time performances and the 2013 lineup lives up to that reputation. Nine Inch Nails visionary Trent Reznor and his new project How To Destroy Angels will make their live debut this year, playing on both Fridays and the Violent Femmes, who haven’t played together live since 2007, are penciled in for the two Saturday lineups. Other rock acts that made the expansive bill include Social Distortion , Puscifer , Ghost and the Descendents. In addition, other headliners and highlighted appearances include Blur, Stone Roses, Phoenix, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lou Reed, New Order and the reunion of the Postal Service. Passes for the monster event go on sale Tuesday, Jan. 29. Visit Coachella.com for ticketing info and the full detailed lineup. ? The band revealed that Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais will sit in with the band for their upcoming Fly Festival dates in India, the Soundwave Festival shows in a Australia and the group’s headlining slot on the  Metal Alliance trek in North America. Caggiano recently surprised fans by announcing his departure from Anthrax, stating he’d like to concentrate on producing and other studio work. With so many gigs on their 2013 itinerary, Anthrax acted swiftly to add Donais to their touring lineup “Jon is a bro and he’s a total f—ing ripper,” says Anthrax guitarist  Scott Ian of Donais. “I’ve worked with him twice on side projects and he tears it up. I’m excited to have him on my right burning up the stage with Anthrax. ’13′s gonna be a good year.” Donais expresses his excitement at the opportunity, adding, “I grew up on Anthrax. They’re the thrash scene, they’re one of the Big Four. I’d be crazy to not want to play with them. Initially, Rob called and told me he was leaving the band and asked if I’d be interested in filling in. Then Scott called me and everything fell into place.” The guitarist revealed that he’s also working closely with the man he’s replacing, as he and Caggiano are using Skype to work on solos and other guitar parts. “He’s being great,” reveals Donais. “I also have to give special thanks to my band [Shadows Fall] — Brian, Matt, Jason and Ed — who have been incredibly supportive and encouraged me to do this.” Shadows Fall, meanwhile, have t our dates scheduled from Jan. 26 through April 19. No word on who will be filling in for Donais on the block of dates that conflict with his stint on Anthrax’s trek. Stone Sour + Mastodon Join 2013 Download Festival Lineup

Adam Bettcher / Ethan Miller, Getty Images The Download Festival has done it again, putting together one of the best music lineups in recent memory, especially if you’re a hard rock and metal fan. The 2013 event, which runs June 14-16 at Donington Park in the U.K., just increased the awesomeness of its  already stellar lineup by adding Stone Sour and Mastodon . For Stone Sour, this marks the second major festival of 2013 where Corey Taylor will get to pull double duty (the other is Ozzfest Japan ), as his other band,  Slipknot , have been confirmed as one of Download’s headliners. Stone Sour have been building extra buzz from their ‘House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 1′ album and their European tour with Papa Roach . As an extra little gift for fans, by the time Stone Sour return to Download, ‘House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 2′ will be in stores. The status of Mastodon by the time that Download comes around is a bit murkier. Brent Hinds recently revealed that while the band is enjoying supporting their 2011 album, ‘The Hunter,’ they actually have a good start making music for their next effort, possibly using some of early 2013 to lay down tracks. Depending on how they progress, the band will either still be promoting ‘The Hunter’ or potentially gearing up for a new release. The three-day event will have Slipknot, Iron Maiden and Rammstein as the headlining bands for the individual days. Other acts set to play Download include Bullet for My Valentine , Queens of the Stone Age , 30 Seconds to Mars , Motorhead , the Gaslight Anthem , Alice in Chains , A Day to Remember , H.I.M. , Volbeat and the reunited Coal Chamber . More bands are expected to be revealed in the weeks and months leading up to the festival. For ticketing information on the 2013 Download Festival, please check here . Watch ‘Wounded Warriors’ Film Starring Korn’s Jonathan Davis

YouTube Korn fans now have a chance to see singer Jonathan Davis in a different environment, as the rocker’s recent short film, ‘ Wounded Warriors ,’ is streaming online. The 17-minute film follows Davis as he tours Germany’s Ramstein Air Base. The movie, directed by Sebastien Paquet, finds Davis experiencing several of the tasks that soldiers go through on a daily basis. The singer says, “I’m just in shock. This film is not about me. It is about all the troops and what they sacrifice to keep our life going. I am truly grateful for every single one of them.” During his time at the base, Davis gets a tour of the C130J Hercules Aircraft from airmen of the 37th Airlift Squadron and an explosives demonstration from the 886th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordinance Disposal Flight. In addition, Davis spent part of the trip visiting with soldiers at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and talking with them about their sacrifices. “Reality’s a bitch,” says Davis in the film. “You’re watching the news and you’re seeing everything that’s going on and It doesn’t really hit you until you actually get there and see the actual faces and the actual equipment and you see what’s going on. I really do think that people should go meet these guys and see what goes on. [They’d] be a little bit more appreciative of what they have.” The film made its debut Nov. 10 at the GI Film Festival in Hollywood and won the “Audience Choice Award.” It will make its television debut on the Pentagon Channel as part of the GI Festival next May.
