Volbeat to Debut New Material During 2013 Danish Tour

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Danish rockers Volbeat have kept quiet for most of the latter part of 2012, but that’s partly because they’ve been working on new music. The group reveal in a new posting that they’re just about ready to share some of their fresh material and will test it out while playing dates in their home country early next year. The band has booked a five-stop Danish trek that will take place between Feb. 19-24 next year. This will mark the band’s first shows in Denmark after nearly two years of life traveling the world in support of their ‘Beyond Hell / Above Heaven’ album. The dates will take place in small clubs, making the experience of being the first to hear the new material all the more special. After the February string of shows, the group will kick off a North American tour in March before heading off to Europe over the summer months to partake in the festival season. As for the new album, there’s not a confirmed title or release date as of yet, but the band is expected to have the disc in stores at some point in 2013. Dave Grohl’s ‘Sound City’ Documentary Set for Sundance Premiere

Justin Sullivan, Getty Images We’ve all been curious to see ‘Sound City,’ Dave Grohl ‘s star-studded documentary tribute to the legendary L.A. studio of the same name, and now the wait is almost over — provided you have a ticket to next year’s Sundance Festival. Sundance 2013, set to kick off Jan. 17 in Park City, Utah, will play host to a wide variety of new films from across the spectrum, and ‘Sound City’ will be among the new documentaries getting their first public screenings. It’s one of the most high-profile premiere outlets a filmmaker can ask for, and Grohl is understandably enthused. As he put it in a press release, “As a first time director, I am humbled to be able to share my passion for songwriting and storytelling with this incredible cast of legendary musicians, as seen through the extraordinary story of America’s greatest unsung recording studio, Sound City. Being included in this group of artists is a true honor, and the Sundance Film Festival is the perfect place to premiere a film about craft, integrity, and passion for art. I am over the moon!” Grohl has been hard at work on ‘Sound City’ over the last year, interviewing a long list of former studio clients and organizing jams with everyone from his former  Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic to Rick Springfield to  Slipknot ‘s Corey Taylor, not to mention kicking off a SiriusXM radio show dedicated to the studio’s history. Check out the trailer below, and start saving up for a plane ticket to Utah. The raucous frontman is brewing up a rock ‘n’ roll takeover of his own with an upcoming live DVD/CD set aptly titled ‘Abachalypse Now.’ The special release is jam-packed with never before seen footage that’s all been remixed and remastered for optimal quality. The footage includes Bach’s performances from 2012’s GrasPop Festival in Belgium, his full set from Hellfest in France and his show at Club Nokia in Los Angeles that originally aired on AXS TV. While the exact details are still being kept under wraps including the track listing and table of contents, Bach weighed in on the special release, saying: “I am so excited for all of you to witness and experience ‘ABachalypse Now.’ We have included three recent concerts and the footage is totally kickass!  It’s remixed and remastered for full audio and video quality. The performances and energy of the crowds are killer throughout the DVD and you really feel like you are at the shows. Slash, Deftones, Tool + Stone Sour Join Ozzfest Japan Lineup

OzzfestJapan.com Ozzfest may leave quite an impression on Japan next year. The longtime hard rock and metal festival turned a few heads earlier this year when it was announced that Slipknot and Black Sabbath would headline the two-night destination festival in Japan. Now comes word that four more heavy hitters have signed on to play. A new concert poster reveals that Slash and Deftones will join the May 11 lineup, which has Slipknot as the headliner, while Tool and Stone Sour will get a chance to open for Black Sabbath on May 12. These are significant “gets” for Sharon Osbourne and the Ozzfest organizers. For one, it’s been the rare occasion that both of Corey Taylor ‘s bands are on the same bill, and he’ll get to play both days of the festival with the decidedly different sounding Slipknot and Stone Sour. Plus, Slipknot only have committed to a handful of dates for 2013, with Ozzfest being one of them. Meanwhile, after a long delay between discs, fans have been clamoring for new Tool music. The band has quietly been working on material over the past year, and the revelation that the group signed on for the show could signify that they may have new music to support when they return to the stage. Ozzfest was a major touring festival from 1996-2007, but has opted for either single-destination stops or minor runs in recent years. This will mark the first time the festival has taken place in Japan. The event is scheduled for May 11-12 at the Makuhari Messe Arena outside of Tokyo. Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Rejoins Queens of the Stone Age for Next Album

Mark Mainz / Jonathan Wood, Getty Images We now know what Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is going to do with at least part of his hiatus , as it’s been revealed that he’s returned to the drumkit to play on the next Queens of the Stone Age album. Queens leader Josh Homme confirmed the news to BBC Radio . For further proof, the band posted a mixing board photo on their Facebook page  (see below) showing the knobs for Homme’s guitar and Grohl’s drums. With the addition of Grohl, that means that longtime drummer Joey Castillo has exited the band . Homme confirmed Castillo’s exit during his appearance on BBC Radio. Incidentally, Castillo joined the group following the 2002 album ‘Songs for the Deaf,’ which featured Grohl on drums. Grohl and Homme have a longtime friendship and musical connection that also included their partnership in the band Them Crooked Vultures . Homme revealed earlier this year that the band had returned to recording after several stops and starts in recent years. The band’s sixth studio album will be the follow-up to their 2007 effort, ‘Era Vulgaris.’ The group had reportedly worked on material dating as far back as 2008, and a supposed 2011 release never came to fruition. Though an official release date has not been announced, a new album is expected in 2013 and the group has already booked appearances at Lollapalooza Brazil and Chile and at the Download Festival . In addition to his upcoming plans with Queens of the Stone Age, Dave Grohl is in the process of wrapping up his ‘ Sound City ‘ documentary, based on the popular Los Angeles recording studio and featuring many top names in rock that have recorded there over the years.
