Stone Temple Pilots Officially Fire Scott Weiland

Kevin Winter, Getty Images According to a press release just sent out on behalf of Stone Temple Pilots , singer Scott Weiland has been officially been fired from the band. The troubled vocalist is no stranger to internal conflict, and it seems that those days are far from over for Weiland, as he once again finds himself out of a job. Weiland was dismissed from Velvet Revolver in 2008, and one of his former bandmates in that group,  Slash , unofficially broke the news of Weiland’s latest exit from Stone Temple Pilots during an interview with Minneapolis/St. Paul radio station 93X. While discussing Weiland’s insistence that he was back in Velvet Revolver in December 2012, Slash threw in, “That’s because he got fired from STP.” Although Slash is considered a reliable source, the news was still thought to be hearsay until Stone Temple Pilots officially announced Weiland’s leave in a short press release issued today (Feb. 27) that reads entirely as follows: Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland. Strangely enough, in an interview with Rolling Stone conducted just yesterday (Feb. 26), Weiland insisted that he was still a member of Stone Temple Pilots. ”STP has not broken up,” said Weiland. “I haven’t quit. I haven’t been fired … Slash doesn’t know anything about STP. We’re talking right now about when we want to tour next … No one has ever fired anybody in STP. We’re like a family. It’s also a partnership. I started the band. We’ve always kept things going. We’ve taken time off before. They’ve done their own projects and I fully support that. No one has been fired and I haven’t quit. That’s all hearsay.” Scott Weiland is currently working on his career as a solo artist with backing band the Wildabouts. Weiland and the Wildabouts will be hitting the road on their ‘Purple at the Core’ tour, signifying that the string of dates will focus heavily on Stone Temple Pilots’ first two albums, ‘Core’ and ‘Purple.’ Weiland is also expected to perform Velvet Revolver and solo material. The trek begins March 1 in Flint, Mich. Update: Scott Weiland has responded with his own statement regarding his termination from STP: I learned of my supposed “termination” from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be “terminated” from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday. – Scott Weiland [button href=”http://loudwire.com/slash-scott-weiland-velvet-revolver-reunion-comments-were-not-buying-it/” title=”Slash on Scott Weiland’s Velvet Revolver Reunion Claim: ‘We’re Not Buying It'” align=”center”]

Singer Adam Gontier Leaves Three Days Grace, Replaced by My Darkest Days’ Matt Walst

Ethan Miller, Getty Images / Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Shocker alert! Frontman Adam Gontier has resigned from  Three Days Grace  just weeks prior to their upcoming co-headlining tour with Shinedown. The band has replaced Gontier with My Darkest Days singer Matt Walst for the trek. A brief posting at the band’s website reveals that Gontier has left the group effective immediately citing a health issue for his exit. The band’s bassist, Brad Walst, stated in a press release, “We were surprised and distressed by Adam’s sudden departure. We are however very excited for this upcoming tour and to have my brother Matt stepping in as lead singer.” Three Days Grace, with Matt Walst on vocals, are still on schedule to kick off their co-headlining tour with Shinedown on Feb. 1 in Moline, Ill. At present, the tour runs through March 30 in Fargo, N.D. No further info was given as to the health issue that led to Gontier’s exit. The news comes as a major surprise, as Three Days Grace are one of rock radio’s most successful bands over the past decade, and recently scored a chart-topping single with ‘Chalk Outline’ off their latest album ‘Transit of Venus.’ They’re currently heating up radio again with their new single ‘The High Road.’ The move also puts My Darkest Days ‘ future in a different perspective. The band revealed just last week that guitarist Sal Costa had left the group , but that they were beginning work on their next studio album. With Matt Walst jumping over to Three Days Grace in Gontier’s absence, it is not known how that will affect My Darkest Days. Three Days Grace have also posted audio of Matt Walst performing with the group to give an idea of what the singer switch will sound like. Former Bury Your Dead Guitarist Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Gang Activity

Former Bury Your Dead guitarist Eric Ellis has just been sentenced to 20 years in prison for an insane list of charges. As an “associate” of Florida gang ‘The Guardians,’ the 28-year-old Ellis was one of five men found guilty of violating the ‘Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Ellis played guitar on Bury Your Dead’s breakout album ‘Cover Your Tracks’ in 2004, along with their 2006 album, ‘Beauty and the Breakdown,’ and the metalcore band’s 2008 self-titled record. The crimes committed by The Guardians are detailed in an  official FBI press release : ? The gang committed a series of violent felonies and crimes, including an extortion that left one man nearly dead; the choking of a young woman until she passed out; armed bank robberies; armed home invasions; daily cocaine and opiate sales; and theft of thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise from local stores. Arrests were made in November 2010 when an investigation revealed that the gang was preparing to commit additional home invasion robberies. The robberies committed by the Guardians resulted in the loss of almost $2 million to their victims. According to a Noisecreep interview from 2009, Ellis himself was a victim of a seemingly random gang assault, which he claimed was a initiation for the attackers. “I was beaten with a hammer and a bat,” Ellis described. “I had 56 contusions down the side of my body. I look back and am glad that didn’t happen to a kid at the show, or a girl coming out of the show. I am almost glad it was me.” Bury Your Dead have released two albums, ‘It’s Nothing Personal’ and ‘Mosh n’ Roll,’ since Ellis left the band in 2008. AC/DC End Longtime Digital Holdout by Reaching Deal With iTunes

The band’s entire discography is now available, including every live album, contributions to soundtracks, box sets and a series of official AC/DC ringtones. Black Sabbath Announce April 2013 Release for New Album + Unveil Australian Tour Dates

Tim Whitby, Getty Images Black Sabbath  have announced that their as-yet-untitled new album will be released in April 2013. In addition, the band has unveiled dates for their first tour of Australia since 1974. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler have been working on their first new studio album together since 1978′s ‘Never Say Die.’ Rick Rubin is producing, Ozzy is currently recording vocals, and Butler is writing all the lyrics. Iommi has already finished his guitar tracks. One song title has been confirmed – ‘God Is Dead.’ If their set lists at 2012′s Download and Lollapalooza are any indication, Australian fans can expect to hear classic Sabbath songs like ‘Paranoid,’ ‘War Pigs,’ ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Snowblind’ and many more. And since the  album will be out by then, a whole batch of new songs will probably be played live as well. The press release doesn’t say who will be playing drums on the Australian tour or on the album, as original Bill Ward has parted ways with the band over contract disputes. Ozzy’s drummer Tommy Clufetos has been playing with Sabbath, and it would make sense he would continue in that role. Tickets for the Australian shows will go on sale Thursday Nov, 8. My Live Nation members will have an exclusive pre-sale starting Friday, Nov. 2.
