3 Doors Down: The Story Behind the ‘Loser’ Video – Exclusive Premiere

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com As part of the continued ramp up to 3 Doors Down ‘s ‘ Greatest Hits ‘ album, original band members Brad Arnold, Chris Henderson and Todd Harrell are reflecting on the songs and videos that paved the way for their success. The group is once again teaming with Loudwire to showcase the video vignette reflecting on the clip for one of their earliest hit singles, ‘Loser.’ In the piece, guitarist Chris Henderson takes the lead, talking about what it was like to be a new band and having to shoot music videos for the first time. He explains that ‘Loser’ was the first time that he was actually given a solo shot in a music video and the nerves that went into that shoot. Henderson gives his account of things in the vignette below. ‘Loser’ was the second single from the band’s 2000 debut disc, ‘The Better Life,’ and after the huge success of ‘Kryptonite,’ it showed that the band was not going to be a one-hit wonder. Years later, there’s a lot of 3 Doors Down hits, including ‘ Duck and Run ,’ ‘Be Like That,’ ‘ When I’m Gone ,’ ‘Here Without You,’ and ‘It’s Not My Time’ among others. All of those tracks are featured on the forthcoming ‘Greatest Hits’ collection, due Nov. 19. 3 Doors Down will support the upcoming release with a late 2012 co-headlining trek with Daughtry . The tour gets under way with the band’s annual ‘The Better Life’ Foundation concert Nov. 17 in Tunica, Miss., and concludes Dec. 15 in Anaheim, Calif. Listen to their song ‘The Abandoning’ here . Welch recently joined the Korn onstage for the first time since his departure to play ‘ Blind ‘ with Korn at the 2012 Carolina Rebellion festival. Soon after, Korn guitarist James ‘Munky’ Shaffer told The Pulse of Radio that he would be open to Welch one day rejoining the band . “It’s just something that has to be super well-planned and it has to come naturally,” says Munky. “And our experience with him on Saturday has all started from a positive place, and it wasn’t forced and it was just natural. So I think if everything optimistically runs like that, that’s all I can hope for. I’m really happy just to reconnect with my old friend.” Check out the websites for the upcoming Rock am Ring and Rock im Park festivals. Green Day Display ‘Stray Heart’ in Latest Video

Green Day being down a rehabbing member hasn’t kept them from releasing new music and even creating music videos. Rather than the band starring in the clip for their latest single, ‘Stray Heart,’ they’ve served up a concept video in which the stars are a guy with a gaping hole and his extremely mobile heart. The clip itself features a man hoping to win over his latest love, but finding out that his womanizing ways are coming back to haunt him courtesy of his “stray heart,” that has him tracking down the vital organ about town. ‘Stray Heart’ is the first ‘ ¡Dos! ‘ single. With the album arriving next week, the band issued a full stream of the disc for fans to check out earlier this week. However, as previously reported, Green Day are currently unable to get out and tour in support of their discs as singer Billie Joe Armstrong continues his substance abuse recovery in rehab. The group recently canceled the remainder of their 2012 tour schedule and postponed the first two months of touring for 2013 . They also pushed forward the ‘¡Tre!’ album to a Dec. 11 release as a way of making up for the fact that they’re not on the road. Black Sabbath + Slipknot to Headline Two-Day Ozzfest Japan

Scott Gries / Lisa Maree Williams, Getty Images The news keeps coming out of the Black Sabbath camp. Not long after it was revealed that the band was planning an April 2013 release and Australian tour , the group was officially confirmed for Japan’s inaugural Ozzfest . They’ll headline night two on May 12 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba City, Japan, while Slipknot have now been confirmed to finish out night one on May 11. Sharon Osbourne recently announced the return of Ozzfest, stating, “ Ozzy [Osbourne] and I want to tell you that [in] May 2013, we’ll be bringing Ozzfest to Japan for the first time ever. We are so excited. Please be there because we love you Japan.” Osbourne has spent a good portion of the last year with the reunited Black Sabbath working on their first studio album together since 1978. The group had plans to tour last year, but settled for a handful of one-off performances while guitarist Tony Iommi recovered from chemotherapy dealing with his cancer. By the time Black Sabbath reaches Ozzfest, they will be plenty warmed up as the group just announced four shows in Australia in late April and early May. Slipknot, meanwhile, are on what Corey Taylor calls a “ hiatus ,” but the singer admitted that the group would be playing sparingly next year. Ozzfest now joins an appearance at the Download Festival . Metallica Crush Voodoo Fest in New Orleans – Concert Review + Exclusive Photo Gallery

Chuck Armstrong, Loudwire In a turn that surprised many fans, it was announced a few weeks ago that Metallica were adding one more show to their 2012 touring itinerary, a schedule that initially ended with the band’s performance at Outside Lands in San Francisco. However, the band answered the call to take over  Green Day ‘s slot headlining the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience festival, meaning Metallica would give the world one more 2012 show. Last night (Oct. 27), Metallica did just that at City Park in New Orleans. The band immediately set the stage for the two-hour show by ripping into ‘Hit the Lights.’ Wasting no time after the opening song, James Hetfield delighted the crowd when he struck the first chord of the iconic opening riff to ‘Master of Puppets.’ In a set that included songs like ‘Blackened,’ ‘All Nightmare Long’ and ‘Holier Than Thou,’ the highlight of the night was when the band played ‘Orion’ in its entirety. In an obvious tribute to the late bassist Cliff Burton (who played a significant role in the writing of the track), Robert Trujillo was spot-on with the bass solos while the rest of the band sounded tighter than ever playing the instrumental. When the song was finished, Hetfield solemnly said, “God bless Mr. Clifford Lee Burton.” Originally set to headline the second night of the Voodoo fest, Green Day had to back out as lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong entered rehab for substance abuse. “We’re Green Day, just a little taller,” Hetfield announced, having some fun with the crowd after the first few songs. Later in the night, as the band took the stage for their encore, Hetfield brought up Green Day again, saying, “They’re getting it sorted out, hopefully they get it fixed because the world needs them.” Right after that, the band tore into a tribute to Green Day by playing the opening riff of ‘American Idiot.’ Not long after that, Metallica kicked the encore off in true style with ‘Creeping Death.’ The Voodoo fest in New Orleans is a unique experience. Five stages, nearly 100 bands and an endless display of locally created art all inhabit City Park for three days each year. With Neil Young & Crazy Horse headlining Friday night and Jack White rounding things out Sunday night, Metallica were heralded as the main act by nearly all of the local press. The bar was set high with their fellow headliners, but Metallica did what they do best: rose to occasion, put on an absolutely rocking show and did not disappoint their fans. To see Metallica not only play their first Voodoo fest, but also their last show of 2012, was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for concertgoers. Metallica’s Voodoo Music + Arts Experience Set List Oct. 27,  2012 ‘Hit the Lights’ ‘Master of Puppets’ ‘Holier Than Thou’ ‘Harvester of Sorrow’ ‘Of Wolf and Man’ Kirk Solo ‘Welcome Home (Sanitarium)’ ‘All Nightmare Long’ ‘Sad But True’ Rob Solo ‘Fade to Black’ ‘Orion’ ‘One’ ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ Kirk Solo #2 ‘Blackened’ Kirk Doodle ‘Nothing Else Matters’ ‘Enter Sandman’ Encore ‘American Idiot’ cover (only the song open) ‘Creeping Death’ ‘Battery’ ‘Seek & Destroy’ ? Stone Sour, ‘House of Gold & Bones Part 1’ – Album Review

Roadrunner Records Stone Sour  singer  Corey Taylor knew early on he wanted to do something special with their latest disc, and with ‘ House of Gold & Bones Part 1 ,’ the band doesn’t disappoint. In fact, this dark tale of a person’s inner battles getting over a traumatic relationship break leaves us yearning for more (thankfully, there will be a ‘Part 2′). The singer says of the disc , “It’s really a morality play. It’s about a person trying to find himself, or herself. You know, everyone in their lives finds themselves inevitably at a crossroads when it comes to a personal evolution and whatnot, trying to figure out what they want to do with the rest of their lives.” Much like a person trying to move on from a difficult split, ‘House of Gold & Bones Part 1′ plays like the emotions of that experience, spanning from bitter, vitriolic, and selfish to broken, mournful and depressive. Listeners got their first introduction with the release of the double-single, ‘Gone Sovereign’ and ‘Absolute Zero.’ The two songs lead off the album and descriptively show where the title character is at their life — a splintered shell of themselves feeling that every legend has been shattered in ‘Gone Sovereign’ and that they’re so filled with hate that there’s nothing left to offer in ‘Absolute Zero.’ Both tracks are filled with hard-hitting guitars courtesy of Josh Rand and James Root and at times powerful and thunderous drumming from Roy Mayorga. Rand recently stated , “‘House of Gold & Bones’ takes everything that’s great about this band and amplifies it. The riffs, the lyrics, the grooves and the songs are like Stone Sour times 10. There’s also heavy stuff that’s like nothing we’ve ever done before. It’s dark as hell and a complete experience from the first track to the last.” Taylor vocally is hitting on all cylinders with this album. ‘A Rumor of Skin’ shows him delivering a deeper register; ‘RU486′ and ‘Last of the Real’ unleash a full blast of his aggression; and ‘Taciturn’ allows the listener to feel every ounce of emotion he’s pouring into the track. ‘ Taciturn ‘ received its live debut by Taylor earlier this year, with the singer primarily on acoustic guitar. While it can pass as a solo song live, on the album there’s some extra pieces as the track builds from an intimate and sorrowful song into something more epic and filled-out by the end with Taylor begging, “ Give me a sign / Show me a light / Maybe tonight I’ll tell you everything .” ‘The Travelers, Pt. 1′ and ‘Tired’ also flow particularly well together in the middle of the record, with the string-backing coming to the forefront. ‘The Travelers, Pt. 1′ provides ‘A Day in the Life’-type conclusion to the title character’s downward spiral, while in ‘Tired,’ the strings pick up the pace and provide a building feel of the character’s increasing instability. While we’re not sure how many singles ‘House of Gold & Bones Part 1′ may have, that’s not the point of the record. Stone Sour have provided the story of a character’s personal voyage and their inner dialogue that works as one album-length idea, and in that aspect they have definitely succeeded and left us anxious to see where the story continues in ‘House of Gold & Bones Part 2.’

Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe to Host New Monthly Radio Show ‘The Crucible’

Twiiter: josemangin Randy Blythe is not wasting any time getting back into the swing of things after his recent extended stay in a Czech Republic prison. Lamb of God kick off their U.S. headlining tour later this month and now the fearless frontman is getting his own monthly radio show. Blythe’s new show will be called ‘The Crucible’ and will debut on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal channel. With a format of music mixed with a healthy dose of talk, Blythe will combine the songs that have helped shape him throughout his life in addition to showcasing new artists. He’ll also be sharing his own stories while interviewing other bands of the genre, as well. In a statement released earlier today (Oct. 15) Blythe talks about how the new radio show came to be and what fans can expect [ via The PRP ]: “The reason I came to NYC was to record the first installment of my radio show for Sirius/XM’s Liquid Metal channel. That’s right, I have my own damn radio show now. My homeboy @JoseMangin (who has done a lot for lamb if god since the start) hit me up & said- “Um, dude, do you want a radio show?” WHY NOT? I have decided to call my show THE CRUCIBLE. Besides being a fantastic play by Arthur Miller (and a container that holds MOLTEN METAL), a crucible is defined as a difficult or trying experience, one that you come out of harder and more refined & more pure. Sometimes life is like that- you have to step into the fire to burn away all the crap & and just take the pain that comes with it. It hurts, but if you want to be A BETTER PERSON, you face this stuff & forge yourself anew, PURER & HARDER. One thing that has always helped me through these times is MUSIC. So on my show, I’ll be playing songs by bands that have helped shape me into the man that I am today, that have gotten me through the rough shit. I’ll also be playing songs by newer artists I like, & I’ll be telling some stories about what all the tunes mean to me. Then, once every show if I can, I will interview a member of one of the bands I’ll be playing, & I’ll ask them about what their music means to them. Right now (due to scheduling & my uncertain future), the show will be once a month- I want to do it more often eventually, but right now I’m kinda busy & have a situation to settle. For my first guest, I wanted someone who has seen some hard times himself, who has gone through some brutal stuff & come out a better man. I needed a real-deal, no bullshit, highly respected & moral, yet hard-as nails motherfucker. I immediately thought of one dude. He’s a legend & a good friend of mine, so he came up to do my first show & KICK IT.” Blythe’s first guest is none other than John Joseph of the Cro-Mags according to a photo recently posted by Liquid Metal host Jose Mangin on his Twitter feed, seen above. No word yet on when the show will debut on SiriusXM, but stay tuned for details!
