Metallica’s Lars Ulrich Reveals Parallel Universe Storyline for 3D Film, Gives Update on New Album

Facebook: Metallica Metallica fans have been drooling for the band’s upcoming 3D concert film ever since the band filmed footage for the movie over the summer of 2012. Small details have been revealed by band members, but this latest revelation put forth by drummer Lars Ulrich may be the most captivating piece of the puzzle yet. In a recent interview with Classic Rock Magazine , Lars Ulrich revealed that the 1976 Led Zeppelin concert film ‘The Song Remains the Same’ has been a major influence for Metallica’s 3D movie, especially when it comes to its more avant-garde qualities. “There are four members in Led Zeppelin, four members in Metallica, it’s a full-length movie, and there’s a lot in this film that does not take place onstage,” begins Ulrich. “The major difference is that the stuff that takes place offstage in the Metallica movie does not feature any members of Metallica. It’s two separate worlds – a Metallica show and a story that unfolds in a parallel universe – and at some point they intertwine.” Ulrich also commented on the possibility of prolific producer Rick Rubin working on Metallica’s next album, which appears to be set for a 2014 release. “I love Rick. We all love Rick,” Ulrich assures. “We’re in touch with Rick constantly. We’ll see where it goes. It would stun me if the record came out in 2013. We’ve got to finish this 3D movie, which is what we’re doing right now.” The live footage featured in Metallica’s upcoming 3D flick was recorded in Vancouver, Canada during the band’s August 2012 performance. The film is expected for a Summer 2013 release. [button href=”http://loudwire.com/metallica-obsessed-couple-baby-orion/” title=”Metallica Fans Name Newborn Baby ‘Orion'” align=”center”]

Parents of Slain Metallica Fan Thankful for Band’s Continued Support

Kevin Winter, Getty Images In 2009, Virginia Tech college student Morgan Harrington was murdered shortly after disappearing from a Metallica concert in Charlottesville. Three-plus years later, the band is still involved with the search for the 20-year-old student’s killer and her parents are thankful for the continued support. Noisecreep reports that the band’s latest venture, allowing the title of ‘Enter Sandman’ to be used on a line of Virginia Tech t-shirts , has resulted in another $40,000 being raised this past fall for the Morgan Harrington medical scholarship fund. That comes after the band chipped in $50,000 of their own money when the fund was initially launched and they also donated $50,000 to the reward in seeking information that would lead to the capture of Harrington’s killer. Plus, just last year, the band filmed yet another PSA seeking information in the case. Morgan’s mother, Gil Harrington, said of the band’s involvement, “It has been very humbling from the very beginning. Two days after Morgan was abducted, they could have distanced themselves from an ugly occurrence. But James Hetfield called this house to speak to Dan [Harrington], as a father, and asked, ‘What can we do?’ Three years out, and they are still doing things.” Harrington says Hetfield spoke to the FBI and also generated the first “missing person” poster that went up on their website in hopes of locating her daughter. “It’s a visceral response as fathers. They were not liability driven or self-protecting,” she adds of their involvement. At present, between the Harrington family and Metallica, there is $150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Morgan’s murderer. Metallica + Red Hot Chili Peppers Among Highest Grossing Touring Acts of 2012

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com The numbers are in for the highest grossing touring acts of 2012, and there are a few surprises peppered into the list. What isn’t surprising, however, is that Metallica were the biggest draw of any hard rock act in 2012, followed closely by bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nickelback . Metallica amassed a tremendous amount of wealth from their live performances in 2012, even though they didn’t tour very extensively throughout the year. With only 30 shows performed last year, including their very own Orion Festival in Atlantic City in N.J., Metallica managed to rake in $86.1 million from ticket sales. Overall, Metallica came in at No. 8 on the list of highest grossing touring acts. Red Hot Chili Peppers toured a bit more extensively in 2012, performing a total of 77 shows and gaining a total gross of $57.8 million for their efforts. Nickelback also made a killing from their live performances. Don’t jump out of your seats, Nickelback haters, but the Canadian rock band acquired $43.6 million from their 81 live performances. Think of it this way: At least they made more than Justin Bieber did last year. We’d tell you how much the pop singer made, but if you laid your eyes on that number, you’d probably smash your computer. Other top draws of 2012 include Paul McCartney ($56.9 million), the Black Keys ($38.1 million) and German heavy metal veterans Scorpions, who made $32.7 million last year. The top grossing act of the year was Madonna with an astonishing $296 million. Check out the full list of 2012′s highest-grossing musical acts at Pollstarpro.com . In other Metallica news, the band were given some new certifications from the RIAA to start the new year, with their 1991 self-titled disc (aka the Black Album) hitting 16-times platinum and ‘Ride the Lightning’ attaining 6-times platinum status. During the Dec. 10, 2011, show, drummer Lars Ulrich played their video and invited them up onstage. Lars Ulrich Confirms Metallica Have Begun Work on 10th Studio Album

Facebook: Metallica Worry not, Metallica fans, for your thrash heroes have officially begun the writing process for a new album. As the follow-up to the band’s 2008 album, ‘Death Magnetic,’ the as-yet-untitled album has so far been described by drummer Lars Ulrich as “heavy,” “energetic” and “fast.” Ulrich spilled the beans to Metal Hammer for the publication’s January 2013 issue, describing the potential framework to Metallica’s 10th album, which is expected to drop in 2014. “The stuff that we were banging out yesterday, it felt heavy, it felt energetic, it was loud, it was fast, it was rocking, it was crazy,” gushes Ulrich. “The snare drum was on there and there were guitar solos, in case anybody was wondering. What we’re doing now certainly sounds like a continuation of where we left off four years ago.” Despite Ulrich’s transparency in discussing the upcoming album, the drummer would not confirm nor deny the inclusion of legendary producer Rick Rubin, who took hold of the board during the ‘Death Magnetic’ recording sessions. “I love Rick, we all love Rick,” assures Ulrich. “We’re in touch with Rick constantly. We’ll see where it goes.” Metallica’s 2014 album will be their first to be released via Blackened Recordings , a label the band recently launched after taking ownership of all their master recordings. “It’s always been about control for us as a band,” says drummer Lars Ulrich. “Forming Blackened Recordings is the ultimate in independence, giving us 100 percent control and putting us in the driver’s seat of our own creative destiny.” Stay tuned for more news on Metallica’s upcoming 10th album as news breaks. Avenged Sevenfold to Join Iron Maiden + Metallica at Rock in Rio 2013

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Avenged Sevenfold are starting to map out their 2013 plans that includes the likely release of a new album and a return to the road. One of the major stops on their upcoming itinerary will be at the Rock in Rio festival, which has become a favorite stopping place over the years. Singer M. Shadows told G1 that they’re anxious to join Iron Maiden and Metallica on the festival bill and will happily play alongside Maiden on the “Metal Day,” Sept. 22, 2013. The vocalist says, “I love Iron Maiden. We’ve done some touring with them in Europe. We are part of that case that each one has its specific fan base, but there are many people who like both the bands, who have the passion for metal [and] like this kind of sound. [We] can’t wait to be part of this festival. Luckily, I know the Brazilian fans of Iron Maiden like our music.” Avenged Sevenfold, a veteran of the 2008, 2010 and 2011 Rock in Rio festivals, says they may also use the festival as a springboard to play other shows in South America. Shadows says, “We’re talking to Metallica and Iron Maiden to [find out] what they will do before and after the Rock in Rio. So, there’s a chance to take the fall and make at least two more shows. We are still seeing [at this point].” The singer says the band is happy to have reached the stage that they are at, selling plenty of records despite not bowing to pop-rock to do so. Shadows explains, “It is possible and we’re not the only example. Iron Maiden and Metallica are two of the greatest bands of all time and [stayed away] from pop. Pantera did well on the charts and has one of the best selling albums of all-time. You have to build a fan club, have to do a good job in the alternative scene and then know how to grow it up. Pop music listeners will not buy our records. We just want to play heavy rock.” At present the band is working on a new record and they have the ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ song ‘ Carry On ‘ keeping fans interested while they complete the upcoming disc. Metallica Unveil ‘Quebec Magnetic’ Footage of ‘Master of Puppets’ Performance

YouTube: Metallica Metallica fans are a devoted bunch and you get to see their passion for the band in full effect in the newly posted video of ‘Master of Puppets’ that’s part of the upcoming ‘ Quebec Magnetic ‘ DVD. The group deliver a blistering performance musically, but James Hetfield , perhaps encouraged by the audience response, lets the crowd fill in some of the vocal parts on ‘Master of Puppets’ while he and the band let loose with their furious playing. The song is definitely a highlight of the forthcoming release. Metallica headed to Quebec City in the fall of 2009 as part of their ‘World Magnetic Tour’ and the shows were filmed for the forthcoming DVD/Blu-Ray offering, ‘Quebec Magnetic,’ which will be in stores Dec. 10. This will be the band’s first release via their new Blackened Recordings label. The group recently announced the launch of the label in coordination with the news that they had taken control of the masters of their past recordings, giving the band full access over how their music is used going forward. Part of having control means the band can offer their concert film at the reasonable price of $15.98 for either the DVD or Blu-Ray format. Fans were allowed to vote on the set list, and the home video will include 18 songs from the concert, plus an additional eight “bonus songs.” ‘Quebec Magnetic’ can be pre-ordered here .
