Cayne: Official Facebook Page Sad news for metal fans everywhere: founding Lacuna Coil guitarist Claudio Leo, who also played for Italian metal band Cayne, has passed away. Leo was an essential member of Lacuna Coil in the band’s early stages, helping form the massive group in the mid-90s when they were known as Sleep of Right. The guitarist remained in Lacuna Coil until 1998, lending his talents to the band’s self-titled EP, which was released via Century Media Records the same year Leo and Lacuna Coil went their separate ways. After leaving Lacuna Coil, Leo and fellow ex-Lacuna Coil guitarist Raffaele Zagaria began Cayne in 1999, releasing their debut album, ‘Old Faded Pictures,’ in 2001. Cayne’s most recent release is the ‘Addicted EP,’ and the band is scheduled to release a new album on Valentine’s Day of this year. Lacuna Coil vocalist Cristina Scabbia posted a heartfelt statement on her official Facebook fan page, paying tribute to her former bandmate: It’s with deep sadness that I inform you all know that our dear friend and ex guitar player Claudio Leo left us. My deepest condolences to his family, close friends and the band Cayne. You will always be remembered for your strength and positivity. We love you, Claudio. Cayne also memorialized their fallen guitarist with a simple update: Goodbye Claudio. Rest in peace, brother. No cause of death has been revealed as of this posting, although it has been reported that Leo was suffering from a serious illness recently. During the Offpsring’s set, Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara would join the band for a stripped down version of ‘Gone Away.’ A video of an October performance of the song at a show at the Hollywood Palladium, as well as footage of the pair recording a studio version of the song, has been released (watch below). “When we started building our own set list, I realized the stripped-down version of ‘Gone Away,’ which we’ve been doing for a few years, would fit Emily’s voice really well,” Offspring singer Dexter Holland tells Rolling Stone . “It turned out to be a special moment in the show each night.” ‘Gone Away,’ off the album ‘Ixnay on the Hombre,’ recently made our list of the 10 Best Offspring Songs . A new version was re-recorded by the band and Armstrong with help from producer Bob Rock. The Offspring released their ninth album ‘ Days Go By ‘ last June. They are set to play the 2013 Soundwave Festival in Australia. They will play Feb. 23 in Brisbane, with shows to follow in Sydney (Feb. 24), Melbourne (March 1), Adelaide (March 2), and Perth (March 4). They will also play a few dates in Australia after the festival wraps up. Dead Sara will continue opening for high profile acts in 2013. They are slated to open for Muse on their North American tour that kicks off Feb. 22. Armstrong is excited about the trek . “We never thought in a million years it would happen like this. Wind-Up Cleveland rock veterans Filter have announced that Wind-up Records will be the new home for their sixth full-length album, tentatively titled ‘Gurney and the Burning Books.’ The album is slated to drop in May, while the disc’s first single will hit the airwaves in March. Filter have released their share of anthems throughout the last two decades, earning their spot as one of ’90s rock’s most definitive bands. For those who remember when MTV actually played music videos, it was a common and welcomed occurrence when ‘Hey Man, Nice Shot,’ ‘Welcome to the Fold’ or ‘Take a Picture’ would pop onto your television screen. Founding member and frontman Richard Patrick will lead with the record’s writing duties alongside guitarist Jonny Radtke and collaborator Marlette. A Perfect Circle / Puscifer drummer Jeff Friedl will also contribute to the new Filter album along with additional drummer Elias Mallin and bassist Phil Buckman. Wind-up Records President Ed Vetri shared his excitement about signing Filter in a new press release. “We’re thrilled to welcome Richard Patrick and Filter into the Wind-up family,” says Vetri. “This is a successful band with an extremely impressive body of work and I’m happy to say that based on the demos I’ve heard, this new album could very well be their best to date. The track holds a special place for the band as it features a guest turn from former Three Days Grace vocalist Adam Gontier , and the band has decided to dedicate the release to Gontier and his former group. ‘Raining’ follows the prior ‘Vices and Virtues’ singles ‘Die Trying,’ ‘Get Thru This’ and ‘Sorry.’ In a mailing to fans, Art of Dying discussed the decision to make the dedication and why just beyond Gontier’s guest appearance that they chose to salute the whole band. The statement reads as follows: In light of Adam’s departure from the band last week, we are dedicating this lyric video to Adam, Brad, Neil, Barry and all of the Three Days Grace fans around the world. They have moved us with their music and we wish all of them the best on their new musical path’s and life journeys.??The story behind the recording: As many of you know Cale and Adam are cousins, and grew up together in Ontario. Adam was kind enough to sing the second verse and do some harmonies with us in the studio. It’s been such an honour having Adam on our record and learning from his unique style and benevolent nature. Relapse Baroness have released a new video for their masterful and immersive track ‘March to the Sea.’ Based on footage from their 2012 tour with Meshuggah and Decapitated , ‘March to the Sea’ showcases the mighty Baroness at the hottest point of their career before their catastrophic bus crash only months later. Having experienced a unique year to say the least, Baroness released their self-professed masterwork, ‘Yellow & Green,’ last year, which was met with universal praise from critics. The band’s bus crash in England thankfully left none dead, but the members of Baroness sustained serious injuries after plummeting 30 feet off a roadside cliff. The harrowing experience was detailed to us in a three-part interview Loudwire conducted with frontman John Baizley. The band members continue to lick their wounds, but the Georgia rockers are preparing for a full-on return soon. “So here is another video for everyone out there!” shares guitarist Pete Adams. “This was filmed while we were on tour with Meshuggah in the Spring of 2012. Hollywood Undead’s third release, ‘ Notes From the Underground ,’ landed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 album chart this week, while Black Veil Brides enjoyed their first-ever Top 10 entry with ’ Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones ,’ which arrived at No. 7. Hollywood Undead moved 53,000 copies in their debut week, finishing behind the 73,000 sold by this week’s chart champ, contemporary Christian artist Chris Tomlin. However, ‘Notes From the Underground’ gives the band their highest debut yet in their career, as their last album, ‘American Tragedy,’ arrived at No. 4 back in 2011. As for Black Veil Brides, ‘Wretched and Divine’ sold 42,000 copies in its opening week. The group also shot to the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Top Album Chart and the iTunes Rock Chart. To show how the band’s fan base has grown, ‘Wretched and Divine’ nearly doubled in first week sales what the group did on their 2011 release, ‘Set the World on Fire.’ Black Veil Brides are currently on the ‘Church of the Wild Ones World Tour,’ with dates booked through a March 8 finale in San Francisco. AOL Buckcherry have been singing about excess with their new single, ‘Gluttony,’ and now they’re sharing a visual representation of the sin with their latest music video. The band recently shot the clip at a church in North Hollywood, Calif., with actor-turned-director Billy Jayne overseeing the shoot. The video finds Josh Todd and the band leading the congregation toward temptation. Guitarist Keith Nelson says of Jayne’s contribution, “It was really refreshing to see his take on what we’re doing because he totally gets the music, he’s connecting with it, and he’s taking it to a different place than a guy who does videos for a living. We got a guy who actually makes movies and TV shows to put his spin on it and it’s been really positive.” Todd recently told Loudwire about the track, “It’s just about trying to control your behavior. They always say that you have to do everything in moderation and that’s never been my experience. One is okay, two is better, three is fantastic and four is the best. I want to consume everything. I want to go big or go home. I’m either on 11 or I’m asleep.” The vocalist also tells Noisecreep , who premiered the clip, “Because the record is called ‘ Confessions ,’ we filmed the video in a church. We got Jesus down here — which is killer — and we got a lot of our fans in it, which is amazing. They came out on their own time and have really put a lot of sweat equity, so thank you to them.” In the video itself, the full congregation seem to be giving in to excess, while one member remains to fight temptation, only to have both Todd and Jesus bending his ear throughout the clip. The ‘Confessions’ album is due in stores Feb. 19, but fans may pre-order the disc right here . Buckcherry have tour dates booked with Kid Rock that were scheduled through early March, but a second leg has just been added, with the trek now extended into April.
