‘War of Change’ Video Still Thousand Foot Krutch are set to embark on a tour with Brian “Head” Welch ’s band Love and Death, as well as the Letter Black and the Wedding. Before the trek kicks off, TFK are unleashing their new music video for ‘War of Change,’ off the band’s independently released, No. 1-selling Billboard Hard Rock album ‘The End is Where We Begin,’ and you can watch it exclusively here on Loudwire. Frontman Trevor McNevan says ‘War of Change’ is about the beauty and hardship of change. “This song embodies the heart and soul of this record [‘The End Is Where We Begin’],” he explains. “I think it captures that urgency – that there are wars going on all around us and inside us. There’s something beautiful about ‘the sound of change,’ and I think this song covers those ideals and the essence of battle. Change can be beautiful and painstaking, but rarely is it comfortable.” Thousand Foot Krutch’s upcoming ‘War of Change Tour’ kicks off Feb. 21 in Columbia, Md., and runs through March 17 in Huntington, W.V. February 11th, 2013 Metalkult Kevork Djansezian, Getty Images It was a busy weekend for Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello , who joined Bruce Springsteen and friends at the MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony on Friday (Feb. 8) and then took part in the final performance of the 2013 Grammy Awards Sunday night (Feb. 10). Morello was part of an all-star collaboration fronted by Grammy host LL Cool J and Public Enemy’s Chuck D. on a song called ‘Whaddup’ off LL Cool J’s new album. Rounding out the five-piece was some nifty scratching from DJ Z-Trip and some dexterous beats from Blink-182 ‘s Travis Barker . Though Morello was mostly in the background on the track, he did come to the forefront for some serious shredding midway into the song. The new track was an interesting song, offering bits of throwbacks throughout from Chuck D.’s repetitious “Hear the drummer get wicked” to Z-Trip spinning a sample of LL Cool J’s ‘Rock the Bells.’ In addition, LL Cool J through in a nod to the late Adam Yauch , shouting “MCA forever” before running off a few lines of the Beastie Boys ‘ ‘No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn.’ However, in a lame move, the end of the song was cut off by sponsorship mentions and a quick cutaway, presumably to keep the length of the show on time. The performance concluded a night which also featured stellar performances from the Black Keys , Jack White , fun. , and tributes to late musicians Bob Marley and Levon Helm . February 11th, 2013 Metalkult Kevork Djansezian, Getty Images The Black Keys , already enjoying a big Grammy night winning three statues before the actual telecast and Best Rock Performance during the televised ceremony, carried over the good times to the Staples Center concert stage Sunday night (Feb. 10) at the 2013 Grammy Awards. The band performed ‘Lonely Boy,’ the song that gave them the Grammy for Best Rock Song, but they had a little help in doing so. New Orleans piano legend Dr. John, whose ‘Locked Down’ album was produced by the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, brought along the Preservation Hall Jazz Band for the performance. The backing added a little extra flare to the performance as Dr. John, donning a feathered headdress, banged away on the piano while the full horn and drum section of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band could audibly be heard adding something new to the track. Meanwhile, Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney brought their traditional passion and energy to the song. In addition to Best Rock Song, the Black Keys won earlier in the night for Best Rock Album for ‘El Camino.’ Frontman Dan Auerbach also received the Producer of the Year, Non-Classical for his work on the Black Keys, Dr. John and Hacienda’s ‘Shakedown’ album. Along with his highly decorated careers with Nirvana , Foo Fighters , Queens of the Stone Age , Probot, Them Crooked Vultures and many others, Grohl recently premiered his ‘Sound City’ documentary at the Sundance Film Festival, with the film now available to see in select theaters. Taking on yet another project, Grohl collaborated with Washington, D.C., group RDGLDGRN to record the song ‘I Love Lamp.’ RDGLDGRN (short for Red Gold Green) are a D.C.-based rock, hip-hop and punk hybrid who take influence from acts such as Bad Brains, Vampire Weekend, the Neptunes and many more. The trio entered Sound City Studios to record their music, and managed to catch the ear of Dave Grohl, who would end up playing drums for RDGLDGRN’s upcoming self-titled EP. The track’s title, ‘I Love Lamp,’ is a reference to a line from the Will Ferrell modern comedy classic ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,’ spoken by Steve Carell’s character Brick Tamland. Although there are no direct lyrical connections to the film, the song’s title will surely catch attention, as Carell’s line is among the most repeated and beloved comedic references of the last decade. As for the song itself, ‘I Love Lamp’ is a smooth and up-beat anthem which is both well-written and radio-friendly. If you’re looking for a sunny-day track to warm you up during bleak winter weather, you might find some solace from the elements within the track. On one hand you’ve got the in-your-face aggression of Pantera versus the all-out brutality of Drowning Pool , and you get to determine which band’s track gets you more fired up for football. Pantera’s ‘F—ing Hostile’ is exactly what the name says. Between the amped up guitar play of Dimebag Darrell and the speedy drumming of Vinnie Paul , there’s no way this song could do anything but get you hyped up into some sort of frenzy. Add in Phil Anselmo ‘s lyrics of aggression and you’ve got the makings of a song that gives you pent up energy to spare. Meanwhile, Drowning Pool’s ‘Bodies’ has long been associated with sporting events due to the aggressive nature of its lyrics. With late vocalist Dave Williams’ repetitive chorus begging, “ Let the bodies hit the floor/ Let the bodies hit the floor ,” this song seems the perfect fit to soundtrack a massive collision, or, at the very least, to unleash some pent up fury. Disturbed ‘s ‘Indestructible’ squares off against Trapt ‘s ‘Headstrong.’ Disturbed’s ‘Indestructible’ is definitely a motivational track, with David Draiman singing about having to “carry the colors again” in honor of an oath he’s sworn to defend. Meanwhile, the song discusses an inner strength that has emerged, thus making them “an indestructible master of war.” This song about going to battle embraces the team spirit and self-motivation as well as just about any track in our competition. Trapt, meanwhile, are also up to fighting the good fight with their anthem ‘Headstrong.’ As the track says, “ Back off, I’ll take you on / Headstrong, to take on anyone .” This song about mental toughness and not stepping down from a fight is perfect for the mindset of an NFL player. We’re taking some of the hardest hitting tracks and pairing them off in order to determine the best song to get you amped for a football game. In this first-round matchup, we’re pitting Metallica ‘s classic ‘Seek and Destroy’ against the Danish rockers Volbeat and their recent hit ‘A Warrior’s Call.’ Metallica’s ‘Seek and Destroy’ is a natural choice, with its super-charged riffage, hard-hitting Lars Ulrich drums and a song title that might as well be a motto for most defensive players in the league as they attempt to take out the other team’s offensive weapons. As the song says at its kickoff, “ We’re scanning the scene / In the city tonight / We’re looking for you / To start up a fight .” Volbeat, meanwhile, provide what seems to be an anthem describing most football players’ mentality. ‘A Warrior’s Call’ stands out with its powerful drums and driving guitars gaining momentum right up until the song explodes. The lyrics also bring it home, with the motivational message “ Breaking your record and breaking your bones / Born a warrior with a code / A champion feeding your face with a fist / You will feel all his power! ” leading the way.
