Metallica vs. Volbeat – 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, Round 1

2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl You may need to strap on a helmet when you get a load of the songs in the 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl. We’re taking some of the hardest hitting tracks and pairing them off in order to determine the best song to get you amped for a football game. In this first-round matchup, we’re pitting Metallica ‘s classic ‘Seek and Destroy’ against the Danish rockers Volbeat and their recent hit ‘A Warrior’s Call.’ Metallica’s ‘Seek and Destroy’ is a natural choice, with its super-charged riffage, hard-hitting Lars Ulrich drums and a song title that might as well be a motto for most defensive players in the league as they attempt to take out the other team’s offensive weapons. As the song says at its kickoff, “ We’re scanning the scene / In the city tonight / We’re looking for you / To start up a fight .” Volbeat, meanwhile, provide what seems to be an anthem describing most football players’ mentality. ‘A Warrior’s Call’ stands out with its powerful drums and driving guitars gaining momentum right up until the song explodes. The lyrics also bring it home, with the motivational message “ Breaking your record and breaking your bones / Born a warrior with a code / A champion feeding your face with a fist / You will feel all his power! ” leading the way. The stage is set and now it’s your turn to tell us who advances. Check out each of the tracks below and vote for your favorite in the poll. P.O.D. to Perform During Halftime of NFC Championship Game in Atlanta

Payableondeath.com P.O.D. may be homers for the San Diego Chargers, but with their team out of the playoff picture, they’ll travel to Atlanta this weekend to serve up some hard-hitting rock for those in attendance at the NFC Championship game. The rockers have been chosen as the halftime performers at the event, in part, due to the popularity of one of their tracks during Falcons football games. Roddy White, the director of event marketing for the Atlanta Falcons (not related to the wide receiver of the same name), told San Diego’s NBC affiliate , “This is kind of a neat thing. Since 2002, when I came to work for the Falcons, their song ‘ Boom ‘ has been a fan favorite. Virtually every game we have played since then, their song has been played as part of our presentation.” Singer Sonny Sandoval also tweeted about their appearance at the event: Excited to be playing the @ nfl @ atlanta_falcons @ 49ers #Playoff Game #Halftime Show this Sunday!!!! @ pod @ thewhosoevers — Sonny Whosoever (@SonnyWhosoever) January 15, 2013 ? This isn’t the band’s first foray into NFL promotions. Back in 2007, P.O.D. created a theme song for their hometown San Diego Chargers. In addition to P.O.D., the Falcons have lined up country superstars the Zac Brown Band to perform the national anthem for the game. Sunday’s game between the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers will air at 3PM ET on FOX. Aside from the NFL appearance, P.O.D. will be plenty busy in the coming months. The band will continue to promote their ‘Murdered Love’ album on tour , opening shows for Shinedown and Three Days Grace . Adler Singer Jacob Bunton Offers Inside Look at Slash Collaboration ‘Just Don’t Ask’

Facebook: Jacob Bunton When former Guns N’ Roses  drummer  Steven Adler launched his new band Adler , it offered a fresh start for the musician. But the stickman still has one very significant tie to the past on his ‘Back From the Dead’ album — a guest appearance from his former bandmate  Slash on the track ‘Just Don’t Ask.’ Speaking exclusively with Loudwire, Adler singer Jacob Bunton tells us, “Steven and Slash have been close friends since they were kids, so the chemistry between the two is amazing.” Of the song ‘Just Don’t Ask,’ Bunton recalls, “When we started recording the album ‘Back From The Dead’, Steven asked Slash if he would play on record. We weren’t sure at first which song to have him play on. Halfway through recording the record, I wrote the song ‘Just Don’t Ask’ and we all looked at each other and said ‘this is the perfect one.’ Slash is one of the most soulful rock guitarist of all time and everything he does is so tasteful. I love his solos on the hard rockin’ songs, but we all agreed that the melodies he creates on ballads are some of the most memorable in music. He came to the studio, plugged in and just nailed it. He’s also one of the coolest mutherf—ers you’ll ever meet!” And speaking of meeting Slash, the vocalist says the guitarist knows how to make an entrance. He explains, “We recorded at Jeff Pilson’s studio in his house. Slash showed up a few minutes late for the session and said he had gone to the wrong house. Can you imagine getting a knock on the door at 10:00 at night and when you open the door, Slash is standing there?” Take a listen to Adler’s ‘Just Don’t Ask’ featuring Slash in the player below. The album, ‘Back From the Dead,’ which earned a stellar review from Loudwire when it dropped in November, is available at iTunes . Listen to Adler’s ‘Just Don’t Ask’ Featuring Slash ? Eddie Vedder Shares Story of ‘West of Memphis’ Soundtrack Contribution ‘Satellite’

Samir Hussein, Getty Images Eddie Vedder , perhaps as much as any musician, used his celebrity to rally the efforts to get the West Memphis Three a new trial. So it should come as no surprise that he’s contributing music to the ‘West of Memphis’ documentary about the now free former death row inmates Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr. and Jason Baldwin. Vedder, who lent his song ‘Satellite’ for the soundtrack, spoke about the track in an exclusive video at Diffuser.fm . The singer wrote the song for Lorri Davis, a woman who first began corresponding with Echols after witnessing his plight in the 1996 documentary, ‘Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills.’ Davis, believing the Echols and his friends were wrongly convicted of killing three youths, would later marry the inmate while he was still in prison and she tirelessly worked to clear her husband’s name. Vedder reveals in his video commentary that Davis makes an unknowing guest appearance in ‘Satellite’ that is sort of a happy accident. ‘Satellite’ first appeared on Vedder’s ‘Ukulele Songs’ album, but felt like a perfect fit for the ‘West of Memphis’ soundtrack. In addition to the Pearl Jam frontman, the disc includes contributions from Camp Freddy , Marilyn Manson , Henry Rollins , Band of Horses , Bob Dylan and more. It arrives in stores Jan. 15. You can check out Loudwire’s exclusive premiere of Camp Freddy’s ‘West of Memphis’ soundtrack contribution, ‘The Jean Genie,’ right here . How to Destroy Angels To Release Debut Album ‘Welcome Oblivion’ in March

Facebook: How to Destroy Angels After teasing fans in recent years with a pair of EPs,  How to Destroy Angels have revealed their plans for their first full-length album. The group, featuring Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor , revealed in a posting at their website that the new disc, titled ‘Welcome Oblivion,’ is expected on March 5. While that was all that was revealed about the long-anticipated album, the group has dug a little deeper into 2012′s ‘ An Omen ‘ EP, with a trippy new video for the track ‘The Loop Closes.’ Just as the song is filled with all sorts of digital blips and bleeps, the accompanying video offers something visually similar, with quick cutting and often blurred or mangled images of animals, natural disasters, eyeballs, human limbs and even the shadowy faces of the band’s members. The video can be seen below. The clip follows the band’s more story-driven video for ‘ Ice Age ,’ which arrived last fall. That promo found the band members in a remote cabin, with singer Mariqueen Maandig looking out the window as the climate began to shift into something similar to the song’s title. Speaking about How to Destroy Angels last year, Trent Reznor explained, “We’ve just been chipping away at this thing, and it’s been a nice pressure release valve really to have something to dump this energy into that doesn’t fit the other containers. It’s been fun.” Watch How to Destroy Angels’ ‘The Loop Closes’ Video [button href=”http://loudwire.com/trent-reznor-how-to-destroy-angels-new-single-keep-it-together/” title=”Next: Watch How to Destroy Angels’ ‘Keep It Together’ Video” align=”center”]

Hollywood Undead, ‘Lion’ Lyric Video – Exclusive Premiere

Octane Hollywood Undead have returned to the music scene with their just-released third album, ‘ Notes From the Underground .’ Helping to grow the buzz this week is the band’s new lyric video for the song ‘Lion,’ which is exclusively premiering Loudwire (watch below). The video itself features time-lapsed footage of the sun setting into nightfall over a gated closure, presumably for a lion. In the background, you see a very well maintained grassy area shaded by the neighboring trees. Lyrically, the song takes you on a journey, opening in more restrained tones with, “ I am a lion and I want to be free / Do you see a lion when you look inside of me / Outside the window / Just to watch you as you sleep / Cause I am a lion born from things you cannot be .” But as the track builds, so does the title character’s inner turmoil and the aggression of the song. Creatively, the track is a little deeper than normal. Johnny 3 Tears recently told us that the band may not always receive artistic credit, but there are moments on the new album where it’s clear that songwriting is something they can do rather well. Though he was not speaking specifically about ‘Lion,’ it’s clear that the group offered something a little more personal on the song. ‘Lion’ can be heard on Hollywood Undead’s ‘Notes From the Underground,’ which is currently available for purchase  here . The song follows their previously released video for ‘ We Are ,’ which was directed by Slipknot ‘s Shawn Crahan . The band just launched their North American tour in support of the album. Bring Me the Horizon Premiere New Single ‘Shadow Moses’

Simone Joyner, Getty Images Bring Me the Horizon continue to evolve with each album and the band is ready to kick off 2013 by showing a bit of their musical growth with the new song ‘Shadow Moses.’ The group debuted the track Friday (Jan. 4) on BBC Radio 1, giving fans their first taste of the forthcoming album, ‘ Sempiternal .’ The song provides a haunting opening before kicking in with singer Oli Sykes delivering the key line, “ Can you tell from the look in our eyes / We’re going nowhere / We live our lives and we’re ready to die / We’re going nowhere .” The “ We’re going nowhere ” line has already worked masterfully as an audience call-and-response in the band’s recent live performances. In addition, the group has managed to work in the album title into the tune, with Sykes screaming on a couple of occasions, “ This is sempiternal .” For those wondering what the title means, it’s definition is “eternal and unchanging” or “everlasting,” thus making the concept of “going nowhere” in the track a rather dreary thought. Along with the brutal subject matter, the song comes with the requisite force, aggression and driving guitar work that one would expect from Bring Me the Horizon, along with a chorus that’s incredibly infectious. Sykes recently said of the band’s forthcoming disc, “I’ve never been so confident about an album. It makes our last record just sound s—. We’re doing stuff we could never dreamed of doing before.” A firm release date for the ‘Sempiternal’ album has not been revealed, but given the fact that the song has now debuted, an early 2013 street date is likely to follow.
