Queens of the Stone Age Describe New Album as ‘Manic and Unpredictable’

Kristian Dowling, Getty Images Queens of the Stone Age are having a little fun with the media leading up to the release of their next album. Singer Josh Homme and band took the time to write up a missive on their forthcoming release for Mojo magazine, admitting a little bit of the pretention that comes with quotes hyping an album. Queens of the Stone Age have been in the studio for a good part of 2012 with Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl coming on board to play drums for the full record and both former Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri and Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor lending a hand as well during sessions. The Mojo message , which featured a rather artful drawing of a single eye with a clock face in place of the pupil that’s set to 9:00, reads as follows: Dear Mojo, A stitch in time will save you 9, but … there’s no way we could have prepared for the journey up the river that is this album. In our grand plan, we envisioned our lives and recordings running like clockwerk. However, the reality has been manic and unpredictable. These songs aren’t recollections of the times we had. They are depictions of what we are going through in real time. It means even a bad event can turn into an unforgettable song — at least for us, ha. The record sounds like running in a dream inside a codeine cabaret. I hope you understand what that means, cause we don’t. Sounds like a load of pretentious s—! What? Gotta go, the therapist says our time is up… Queens of the Stone Age Homme recently spoke about the difficulty the band has had in getting their new album to completion. Though a firm title or release date has yet to be announced, it’s expected that the next Queens of the Stone Age album will arrive in the first half of 2013. Corey Taylor Recalls Fantasy of Menage-a-Trois With Lita Ford and Doro Pesch

LitaFordOnline.com / Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com / Doromusic.de It’s not uncommon for teen boys to start fantasizing about beautiful and famous women, and Slipknot / Stone Sour singer  Corey Taylor  reveals that his adolescence was filled with fantasies about ’80s metal goddesses Lita Ford and Doro Pesch . Taylor says that while Joan Jett was hot, he wasn’t quite at the age yet where his fascination with women was such a major part of his life during her heyday. Instead, his love of metal introduced him to the blonde bombshells Lita Ford and Doro Pesch. He tells Armed Forces Network’s Russell Toof the following: “I had this amazing dream about being in a ménage-a-trois with Lita Ford and Doro Pesch, only because they had that great cover in ‘Ripped’ magazine which I used to collect. They had a big pullout poster that was on my wall forever. They were just the hottest women that I’d seen in my life. So that was my [crush].” Taylor also took time to address his comments about potentially pursuing a dance album and reaching out to Justin Bieber for a performance . The vocalist says that some of the commentary was meant in fun, as he admits, “I just love messing with the fans.” However, the attempt to reach out to Bieber for a one-off collaboration at his book event for an acoustic version of the ‘Psychosocial Baby’ was legit and something he thought would be fun even though it didn’t pan out. While he didn’t foresee it going anywhere beyond that, Taylor says, “The funny thing is if he came to me, I’d be all about it. I don’t even care. Because it’s not about what people think at the end of the day. It’s about what you want to do. And trust me, I’ve turned down weirder gigs to be honest.” As for the dance record, that was something that was just in fun that evolved into something much bigger during Twitter conversations with fans. That being said, Taylor adds, “At this point man, anything’s possible. Who am I to not want to make music? It doesn’t matter what kind it is. I would love to do a tune with Prince or Willie Nelson . That to me is the true representation of being a lover of music and not caring about your q points and all that crap, so, hey, you never know, right?” He also addressed pulling double-duty with Slipknot and Stone Sour at Ozzfest Japan next year, explaining, “Obviously I can’t do it all in one night or I’d kill myself, but you know having Slipknot headline an Ozzfest gig, that’s an honor and it makes me proud of what we’ve accomplished and whatnot and then to turn around the next night and basically have Stone Sour open for Black Sabbath , I mean that’s pretty damn sweet. I have no complaints at this point in my life.” To hear more of Taylor’s interview, in which he also discusses reaction to Stone Sour’s ‘House of Gold & Bones Pt. 1′ being named one of Loudwire’s 10 Best Rock Albums of 2012 , his favorite TV theme songs and his relationships with Seether and Halestorm , click play below: Listen to AFN’s Russell Toof Interviewing Corey Taylor [button href=”http://loudwire.com/stone-sour-corey-taylor-house-of-gold-bones-movies/” title=”Next: Corey Taylor Eyes Movie Adaptations of Stone Sour Albums” align=”center”]

Dave Grohl: Queens of the Stone Age Provide Him ‘No Boundaries’ Rock

Kevin Winter, Getty Images Dave Grohl is heading back behind the drumkit for Queens of the Stone Age , and he says one of the things the experience provides is freedom from restrictions. The Foo Fighters leader told BBC Radio 1 (via NME ) that he’s really enjoying backing up old pal Josh Homme and that the musical chemistry is undeniable. Grohl explained, “With Queens of the Stone Age, like, there were no boundaries with that band, there were no limits with them, it was like if you did something insane, you’d do more, if you did something that seemed too ridiculous — and honestly the new Queens of the Stone Age record, I’m playing drums on that, and I’ll do something so completely ridiculous, I’ll just, like, ‘There’s no way that that Josh isn’t going to let me do that,’ and he’ll say, ‘Do that for forty-five seconds, over and over again, that’s become, like, part of the song, that is a big part of the song,’ and that’s the way they work.” The drummer previously took a turn behind the kit for the ‘Songs for the Deaf’ album and he says it was definitely a unique experience. He recalls, “When you walk into a festival backstage with Queens of the Stone Age, it’s like, the record stops. People stop and they stare, and it’s like, Queens of the Stone Age are, without question, the baddest rock and roll band in the world! And they still are, and when ‘Songs For The Deaf’, when that came out, it blew people’s minds, man, for real.” Grohl is filling the void of drummer Joey Castillo, who, incidentally, joined Queens of the Stone Age after Grohl returned to Foo Fighters. The group continues to record new music and a disc is expected next year. Stone Sour Construct House-Like Packaging for New Albums

Roadrunner Leave it to Corey Taylor to go big with his latest vision. The Stone Sour singer just continued his dedication to the ambitious ‘ House of Gold & Bones ‘ double-album by introducing intricate packaging for the two releases, which when put together forms the shape of a house. Fans will be able to get the first part this week when ‘House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 1′ arrives in stores, but it will take the second part, which isn’t due until next spring, to complete the house-shaped packaging. While we have to wait to construct the full ‘House of Gold & Bones,’ Stone Sour has posted a trailer to show their fans how it will all fit together. The clip can be seen below. On top of the double disc, fans can look for a four-issue comic book . The comic book series debuts April 17, 2013 through Dark Horse Comics. Taylor also recently stated that he’s interested in creating two films to represent each record. Stone Sour will hit the road to support both releases, but the band is starting their run outside of the U.S. Aside from two Halloween week shows (Oct. 28 and 29) at Wooly’s in Taylor’s hometown of Des Moines, the trek will span through Mexico, South America, and Europe for the remainder of the year. Stone Sour will kick off 2013 taking part in Australia’s Soundwave Festival . North American dates are expected to follow, but have yet to be announced. Stone Sour Debut ‘Gone Sovereign’ Video

Roadrunner Records As anticipation builds for the Oct. 22 release of  Stone Sour ‘s fourth album ‘ House of Gold & Bones Part 1 ,’ the band has released the video for ‘Gone Sovereign.’ P.R. Brown, who has worked on several previous Stone Sour and Slipknot videos, directed ‘Gone Sovereign.’ The performance clip begins with the band tightly grouped around Roy Mayorga’s drum kit, then once the song kicks in, the shot widens to reveal they are in a club playing for frenzied fans. The second half of the two part concept album is due next year. Singer Corey Taylor is also creating a comic book to go along with the ‘House of Gold & Bones’ albums. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” says Taylor. “I’ve always been very critical of when comics go south and basically pull the fan out of what the potential is. It’s me pretty much putting my money where my mouth is.” He is scheduled to be at New York’s Comic Con this weekend to promote the comic. Stone Sour are set to embark on a world tour at the end of this month. It will take them to Japan, South America, Europe and Australia. “It’s gonna be awesome to bring the ‘House of Gold and Bones’ to the fans live,” Taylor says. “We’re all psyched to come to Japan and South America right away as well- they’re some of the best fans in the world! We gave people a taste of Part One, now we’re gonna bring them the best Stone Sour show they’ve ever seen. Get ready: it begins soon…” [button href=”http://www.noisecreep.com/2012/10/11/stone-sour-gone-sovereign-video/” title=”Watch Stone Sour’s ‘Gone Sovereign’ Video at Noisecreep” align=”center”]
