Bullet for My Valentine Unveil ‘Riot’ Video

YouTube Bullet for My Valentine ‘s audience has grown considerably over the recent years and their latest video, ‘ Riot ,’ reflects that evolution on a somewhat smaller scale. The band recently shot the clip in Brooklyn, N.Y., with director P.R. Brown and the video finds singer Matt Tuck as a bit of a hard rock pied piper as he roams the tough city streets. In the video, Tuck belts the track’s anti-establishment lyrics as he passes graffiti covered walls and multiple youths seem to heed his call, popping up as he walks by. As the song suggests, it’s not long before the sirens and the law are hot on the tail of Tuck and his growing following. But before you think that Tuck is rounding up the troops for some Michael Jackson ‘ Beat It ‘-like showdown, he heads down a dark alleyway and enters an abandoned warehouse lit only with swinging light bulbs as he and his bandmates rock the ‘Riot’ song for their newfound fans. ‘Riot’ can be heard on Bullet for My Valentine’s upcoming album, ‘ Temper Temper ‘ (due Feb. 12). Check out the artwork for the disc here . Philip H. Anselmo / Warbeast, ‘War of the Gargantuas’ – Split EP Review

Housecore In one of the more interesting splits we’ve encountered as of late, Philip H. Anselmo , who requires not a single word of introduction, courtesy of his legacy, and Texas thrashers Warbeast have released their ‘War of the Gargantuas’ split through Anselmo’s own Housecore Records. The four-song EP boasts two songs per artist, and is historical simply because it is the first time Anselmo has released any solo music (with the Illegals as his backing band) during his 30 years of active service in the name of heavy metal. We’ve never had all of our senses assaulted at once, but how we assume that sensation would feel is created by this short, blast of an EP. It’s tightly constructed. It’s loud. It’s extreme. It’s all the things we like in our metal. It’s like each artist is trying to “out metal” the other and that’s a good thing for metal fans. Inside, you’ll find lots of squeally vocals, galloping solos and heavy metal that never, ever compromises. The first track,’Conflict,’ which is one from Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals, is shrieky, post- Pantera Anselmo, but he still has the same dangerous bark and damaging bite. How a man who has been destroying mics for decades can still summon this much strength and deliver this kind of bone-liquefying vocal terror is beyond us. He is no mere mortal, nor mere metal. He is an elite frontman with few (if any) peers, especially when he lets ‘er rip, as is the case here. The next track, ‘Birth of a Psycho’ by Warbeast, is a hulking slab of dirty, gutter-dwelling, sludge-caked punk rock with a little bit of blackened grime and some deathy riffs thrown in for good measure. It culls influence from several metal sub-genres. The band takes guitars grooves and vicious vocals and throws ‘em all into a gnarly, metallic bonfire. The brilliantly titled ‘Family, ‘Friends’ and Associates’ is an Anselmo track which gets the point across in a few words, and is loaded with screamy vocals, with Anselmo’s authoratative spoken words behind it. The vocal spasms are supplemented by chunky, extra fast riffery, squalls and some Motorhead-y solos. When Anselmo barks , “I’m calling you out, ” you have a choice to either meet him in the ring or cower in the corner. We think most people will be doing the latter, based on the ferocity in which he makes the statement. Hands down, it’s the best track of the four. The EP ends with ‘It,’ a Warbeast track that is also fast with machine-gunned riffing, and some smash-til-your-arms-fall-off drumming. It’s an exercise in extreme metal, and the right amount of groove. No wonder Anselmo chose to appear on an EP with them and sign them to his label. No false metal here. It’s about as trend-free and trend-killing as it gets. Anselmo’s music often has a touch of melody, which he forgoes here. But everything is equally as memorable. Warbeast are just that – a fighting, battling beast. We wish ‘War of the Gargantuas’ was a bit longer, but it offers a nice taste of what to expect on Warbeast’s upcoming full-length, ‘Destroy,’ and Anselmo’s debut solo album, both due this year. In the meantime, pick up the EP at iTunes and catch Anselmo’s band Down on tour with Warbeast this winter. ?

Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Denied Bail in Child Sex Offense Case

Ian Gavan, Getty Images Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins will remain behind bars after the Cardiff Crown Court denied his appeal for bail Thursday (Jan. 10). The Mirror reports that the singer, who was arrested late last year for alleged sex offenses relating to minors, appeared via video link from Parc Prison in Bridgend and Judge Eleri Reese denied his plea. With the ruling, Watkins will now remain in custody until at least his next plea hearing, which is scheduled for later this month. The vocalist has been charged with two incidents of conspiring to engage in sexual touching with two young children and another four offenses of possessing and distributing indecent images of children. Watkins bandmates issued a statement at the time of his December arrest, explaining, “We find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers.” The band called off their scheduled tour after the singer’s arrest. The group has been supporting their 2012 album, ‘Weapons.’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/lostprophets-vocalist-ian-watkins-to-remain-in-police-custody-on-child-sex-charges/” title=”Next: Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Held in Police Custody” align=”center”] ?

Jane’s Addiction Guitarist Dave Navarro Gets Naked for New PETA Campaign

PETA Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro has long been an activist for animal rights, and now the guitarist is proving it in his latest campaign for PETA. In a spot geared towards exposing the cruelty of animals led by the cosmetic industry, the rocker bares all in a squeamish series of photos. Throughout the photo series, Navarro can be seen simulating the torture animals endure at the hands of humans in the quest for perfecting cosmetics and household cleaners. Images of Navarro, like the one seen above, bleeding from the eye with patches of flesh ripped off and bleeding, accompany the message PETA is promoting, ‘Animal Testing Kills: Choose Cruelty-Free.’ The campaign not only calls out the heinous testing methods but helps promote cruelty free testing throughout the industry. In the behind the scenes clip below posted by PETA, Navarro talks about his first exposure to cruelty free makeup and how he learned about the inhumane practices, leading to his quest to become an advocate for the animals. “They’re not taking a bunny rabbit and putting mascara on it. They’re injecting a chemical directly into its eye to see what kind of adverse reaction happens to it,” Navarro explained in the interview. “In many cases, parts of their body are ripped open. They’re all alive, and they’re all aware. It’s torture for the animal, it’s terrifying and painful and probably one of the cruelest things done in the name of vanity.” This doesn’t mark the first time that Navarro has geared down for PETA though and if we were betting folk, probably not the last. He also participated in PETA’s ‘ Ink, Not Mink ‘ campaign, protesting the fur industry. Watch the clip below to see Navarro behind the scenes at his gory photo shoot and to learn more about cruelty-free animal testing, but be warned, it’s not for the faint at heart, as it contains some graphic images of animals. Ethan Miller / Theo Wargo, Getty Images The Loudwire Top 20 Countdown is back this week with a familiar face at No. 1. Shinedown ‘s hit song ‘Enemies’ is spending its third straight week on top and fourth week overall. With ‘Enemies’ still at No. 1, Avenged Sevenfold remain in a holding pattern at No. 2 with their quickly rising single, ‘Carry On.’ Meanwhile, Soundgarden ‘s slide out of the top five (they fall to No. 6 with ‘Been Away Too’) proved beneficial for three songs that all moved up a notch. All That Remains currently hold down the No. 3 position with ‘Stand Up,’ Volbeat scoot back up to No. 4 with ‘Heaven Nor Hell’ and Chevelle ‘s ‘Same Old Trip’ reaches its highest position yet at No. 5. Even though Soundgarden fell three notches, they weren’t the biggest dropper. That distinction goes to former Top 5 single ‘Standing in the Sun’ from Slash . It falls from No. 7 to No. 11 this week. The biggest risers belong to 3 Doors Down ‘s ‘One Light,’ Adelitas Way ‘s ‘Alive,’ Young Guns ‘ ‘Bones’ and Alice in Chains ‘ ‘Hollow,’ all of which jumped up two spots this week. 3 Doors Down, Adelitas Way and Young Guns now hold down the No. 8-10 spots on the countdown, while Alice in Chains’ ‘Hollow’ leaps up from 18 to 16. Camp Freddy, ‘The Jean Genie’ – Exclusive Premiere From the ‘West of Memphis’ Soundtrack

Ethan Miller, Getty Images In recent years, many in the music industry have rallied around Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, more commonly known in the media as the West Memphis Three. The three men were freed from death row in 2011 after spending 18 questionable years in prison for the alleged murders of three boys. Now, their fight to bring the truth to light is the subject of the documentary film ‘West of Memphis.’ The film is bolstered with a star-studded soundtrack filled with music from some of their supporters and Loudwire is exclusively premiering  Camp Freddy ‘s cover of David Bowie ‘s ‘The Jean Genie.’ Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro , one of the trio’s longtime supporters, is also a member of the all-star covers band Camp Freddy and the group was more than happy to lend their cover of ‘The Jean Genie’ to the film. Over the years, Navarro became friends with Echols, in particular, and learned that Bowie was one of the inmate’s favorite artists to listen to while serving his time. The Camp Freddy version of the track features some wailing guitar work from Navarro and Billy Morrison, along with special guest guitarist Steve Stevens, plus a thumping bass line from Chris Chaney. Meanwhile, singer Donovan Leitch Jr. displays a swagger and bravado that Bowie originally brought to the track. In addition to Camp Freddy, the ‘West of Memphis: Voices of Justice’ soundtrack, which arrives Jan. 15, features cuts from Marilyn Manson , Eddie Vedder , Henry Rollins , Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, Band of Horses , Bob Dylan , Natalie Maines and more. The soundtrack CD arrives on Jan. 15 and can be pre-ordered at  Amazon  or iTunes , while the film is currently showing in select theaters.
