Rage Against the Machine Bassist Comments on Possible New Album + Paul Ryan’s Fandom

Kevin Winter, Getty Images Rage Against the Machine bassist Tim Commerford gave a “maybe” when asked last month by TMZ if the band was going to be making a new album. Now, Commerford has given a slightly different response when asked the question yet again, with an added dig at Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan in reaction to the politician’s claims that he’s a certified Rage fan. A few days ago, TMZ caught up with Commerford in a parking lot again (watch below), and once again asked the bassist about a new RATM album. “Definitely, maybe. Anything’s possible,” said Commerford, adding yet another positive, yet mysterious answer to one of rock music’s most burning questions. He was also asked about Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan, who earlier this year claimed to be a fan of Rage Against the Machine. Commerford tells TMZ, ”Clearly he’s not that smart to be admitting that. It just seems like it’s stupid for him to even bring it up, so he’s obviously not that smart of a guy.” When the interview suggested it might be the band’s “infectious bass lines,” Commerford quipped, “It must be the bass, it’s gotta be the bass.” Commerford’s Rage bandmate  Tom Morello previously commented on Ryan’s love of rage, saying , ”Paul Ryan’s love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades.” Whomever you choose to support in the 2012 Presidential Election, make sure to go out and vote tomorrow (Nov. 6) if you’re a U.S. citizen 18 years of age or older. Additionally, fans from all over the world can vote in Loudwire’s President of Heavy Metal Election , where Rob Zombie is facing Ozzy Osbourne in the finals! Metallica’s Kirk Hammett Jams With Death Angel at ‘Too Much Horror Business’ Book Launch

Kevin Winter, Getty Images / Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Metallica ‘s Kirk Hammett is making the rounds showing off his ‘Too Much Horror Business – The Kirk Hammett Collection’ book of horror memorabilia, but during a stop in San Francisco to promote his page-turner, he worked in some music for those in attendance as well. Hammett welcomed Death Angel as guest performers at the event and joined them for a set. The show took place at San Francisco’s Public Works Thursday night (Nov. 1), with Hammett hopping onstage to jam. The set included a performance of the Metallica classic ‘Trapped Under Ice.’ As for the new ‘Too Much Horror Business’ book, Hammett made sure to not only include the items he owns, but also a little conversational background on how the items came to be in possession. Speaking about the interview portion of the book, the guitarist explained , “It was important for me to be able to interject some of my own personality into the book, to bring it to a different place. I didn’t want it to be a stock coffee table art book, I didn’t want it to be a reference book, I didn’t want it to look like an auction catalog, which a lot of art books end up looking like, at least to me. It was important to me to interject some of my own personality and some of my own humor and my own opinion on this stuff. How and why I’m into all this stuff. It was a way for me to make it more my book than just another coffee table book.” He added that while it’s hard to narrow down his favorite horror films to just a few, he rates the original ‘Mummy,’ the ’70s low-budget ‘Dracula Vs. Frankenstein,’ and the 1935 film ‘Mad Love’ among the best. As for Death Angel, they too have something to promote as their ‘ A Thrashumentary ‘ DVD is expected to arrive in early 2013. Kirk Hammett Excited for Metallica’s Headlining Set at Voodoo Music Festival

Kevin Winter, Getty Images On the heels of learning that Metallica will be taking over Green Day ‘s headlining gig at the 2012 Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in New Orleans, Loudwire had the chance to catch up with ‘Tallica axeman Kirk Hammett . This will be Metallica’s first concert in New Orleans since 2008, so needless to say there is a lot of excitement around the announcement . With Green Day pulling out of the festival due to lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong ‘s entrance into rehab, Hammett looks at the concert as more than just filling an open slot. “I’m very honored that we’re able to help our friends in Green Day,” he says. “I wish Billie Joe the best of luck, we’ll do anything to help them out. It’s great to be able to help him out.” What can fans expect from the show? “It’s such a recent development, so we haven’t really discussed what we’re going to do yet,” Hammett explains honestly. “New Orleans during Halloween, I’m really excited about that. I love New Orleans, I love the voodoo folklore, I love the vampire folklore. It should be pretty interesting.” With the recent release of Hammett’s book that chronicles his horror movie memorabilia collection, ‘ Too Much Horror Business ,’ there’s no doubt that fans are in for a treat on Halloween weekend in New Orleans. The 14th annual Voodoo Music + Arts Experience kicks off on Oct. 26 and runs through Oct. 28. Metallica will be headlining the Oct. 27 date. Funniest Guitar Faces

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Oh, the guitar face – that magical place that rockers slip off to when they’ve been totally consumed by a song and the music is in total control. While some guitarists and bassists have truly signature mugs when they rip into a song, others allow the mood of the music to uniquely fashion their fantastical facial expressions — leading to the notorious guitar face. One this for sure though, when the music takes over the faces are truly unforgettable. When the guitar is removed from the equation it offers up a whole new world of possibilities from pure exhilaration to downright carnal. Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan: ‘Life Did Not Turn Out the Way I’d Planned It, Not Even Close’

Kevin Winter, Getty Images We’re beginning to think that Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan may have a grudge against some of his former bandmates. Additionally, and this might be a bit of a stretch, but Corgan seems to also enjoy the occasional trash-talking session. Finally, and by all means correct us if we’re wrong, it seems possible that Billy Corgan may possess some sort of internal turmoil. We developed this hypothesis after reading a recent statement from Corgan, where he threw some ill will at some former Smashing Pumpkins members, while analyzing his personal life as well. Injecting a bit of positivity into his recent interview with SFweekly.com , Corgan described his relationships with the new Pumpkins members and how it has affected him creatively. “When you actually like each other,” Corgan explains, “it translates to the music. The difference with Oceania is, I’ve found harmony again.” This seems to be a welcome change for the iconic frontman, who compared the current lineup to various ‘classic’ Pumpkins configurations. “There’s no way to properly convey what it was like to be in that band,” Corgan says about the original lineup. “And the f—ed up stuff is 10 times more f—ed up than what the world knows. I was in love with the Smashing Pumpkins,” he says, sounding wistful. “I really believed in what we were doing. But I idealized the band — which overlooked their incredibly flawed human personas, and which now bites me in the ass, as they rear their heads for lawsuits.” He then waxes philosophically on his personal life, stating, “If somebody would have told me 15 years ago that at 45 I’d be living in a big house with two dogs and two cats, with no wife and no girlfriend, I wouldn’t have believed them. My life did not turn out the way I’d planned it. Not even close … Maybe this was the way it was meant to be all along.” The Smashing Pumpkins are currently on a North American tour in support of their 2012 album, ‘Oceania.’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/smashing-pumpkins-the-celestials-best-rock-songs-of-2012/” title=”The Smashing Pumpkins: Best Rock Songs of 2012″ align=”center”]
