Brown / Justin Sullivan, Getty Images The Foo Fighters freshened things up by digging into the past with several classic rock covers Friday night (Sept. 21) during their headlining set at Atlanta’s Music Midtown festival. The event also gave them the opportunity to reprise their frequent cover of ‘Bad Reputation’ with the song’s originator, Joan Jett , who had played earlier in the day. The fans were treated to a healthy dose of the band’s ‘Wasting Light’ album early on, with ‘White Limo,’ ‘Rope,’ ‘Arlandria,’ ‘These Days,’ and ‘Walk’ among the first nine tracks of the night. But after that and such well placed hits as ‘All My Life,’ ‘The Pretender,’ ‘My Hero,’ and ‘Learn to Fly,’ the band mixed things up with their first cover of the night – Van Halen ‘s ‘Everybody Wants You.’ The blistering guitar work and audience reaction made this one of the highlights of the evening, as the Foo Fighters showed that even on someone’s else’s material, they’re a band on top of their game. Next up in the covers catalog was the group’s take on Pink Floyd ‘s ‘In the Flesh?’ The track has been a favorite cover over the past year or so with Taylor Hawkins leading the vocals rather than Dave Grohl . The last two covers of the night also leaned to the classic rock side, with Dave Grohl leading the band through the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers classic ‘Breakdown’ first. With its moody beat, the Petty classic allowed the Foo Fighters a bit of a breather from their adrenaline fueled set. However, the mid-tempo break was quickly alleviated when Grohl and company introduced Jett. The singer, who has appeared several times with the Foo Fighters during the support of their latest album and even joined the band on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman,’ reprised the collaboration of ‘Bad Reputation’ for the Atlanta audience. Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Godsmack have always been vocal about how much of an influence Pantera had on their career and so it seemed only fitting that when the 2012 Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival rolled into Pantera’s home state of Texas that the band would pay homage to them at some point during the night. It didn’t take long to get that ball rolling as Sully Erna and Godsmack were joined center stage by Mike Mushok and Aaron Lewis of Staind . Together they ripped into ‘This Love’ from Pantera’s 1992 release ‘Vulgar Display of Power,’ a disc that coincidentally just secured the No. 1 position in Loudwire’s Top 10 Albums of 1992 proving what an impact it made on both musicians and music fans alike. The stage quickly became an all-star cast of the 2012 Class of Uproar Fest with members of Fozzy , P.O.D. and more providing gang vocals during the chorus on one side of the stage while Rita Haney, the longtime girlfriend of late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott , joined in on the other side of the stage, making for quite a special metal moment. Erna closed out the song, saying, “Rest in peace Dimebag Darrell, we miss you.” Fans in the crowd managed to capture the performance from several different angles. Spencer Kaufman, Loudwire For those wondering if Green Day had mellowed out in their older years, we present Billie Joe Armstrong ‘s f-bomb filled tirade at the Las Vegas-based iHeartRadio Music Festival. The group played a seven-song set, but the final track ‘Basket Case’ was cut short when Armstrong noticed a clock that was telling them how much time was left in their performance. Apparently, the group had their set cut short so that pop star Usher could have more time, and it didn’t sit well with the singer. In mid-lyric, Armstrong belted to the audience, “I wanna play a new song. F— this s—. Gimme a f—in’ break, one minute left. One minute f—in’ left. You’re gonna give me one minute?! Look at that f—in’ sign right there, one minute! Let me tell you something … I’ve been around since f—in’ 1988 and you’re gonna give me one f—in’ minute?! You’ve gotta be kidding me.” The singer added, “I’m not Justin f—in’ Bieber you mother—–ers! You’ve gotta be f—in’ joking. It’s a f—in’ joke. At present, there are only three other acts to have reached the milestone, each of them pop stars. Justin Bieber leads the way with 2.8 billion YouTube views, followed by Rihanna and Lady Gaga . The fact that Linkin Park have reached the goal is not only a credit to their music, but also to the video work they’ve done over the years, most of which came courtesy of the band’s DJ, Joseph Hahn. The musician began to explore the visual side of his career by co-directing the videos for ‘Papercut’ and ‘In the End’ with acclaimed director Nathan “Karma” Cox. From there, he assumed much of the band’s video-making responsibilities, overseeing the shoots for ‘Somewhere I Belong,’ ‘Numb,’ ‘What I’ve Done,’ ‘Bleed It Out,’ ‘New Divide,’ ‘Waiting for the End,’ and ‘Burn It Down’ among others. It may be a while before another rock band reaches the billion mark, as Gigwise reports that the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day are next in line with 327 million and 245 million respectively. Twitter: Wye Oak Papa Roach have a lot of fans out there, and they may have taken the first step to winning over one more. In a special feature for a recent interview, Wye Oak’s Jenn Wanser chose Papa Roach’s ‘Scars’ as her most hated song, but did have a few reservations about doing so. Rather than a war of words erupting between the pair, Wasner was surprised to receive flowers from Jacoby Shaddix . As part of an ongoing piece for the AV Club , they’ve asked musicians for the most hated tracks and somewhat begrudgingly Wasner chose ‘Scars.’ She stated, “When I heard this song for the first time, it sounded like ‘Butt Rock Band Goes to Therapy and Picks Up a Few Therapy Buzz Phrases and Then Writes a Song.’ It was also like, ‘Singer of Said Butt Rock Band Discovers What a Metaphor Is.’” But having said that, Wasner explained, “I’m actually feeling really bad, picking this person’s song apart, because how could it not be completely genuine when you read these lyrics?” The singer says after breaking down the song a little bit, she realizes that despite her own opinions, it definitely connected with a lot of people. She added, “Who am I to say this is the worst song of all time? … And I guess that’s not what this feature is … the song is most hated song. It doesn’t mean that it is objectively bad or that I’m trying to say that it is objectively bad. Disclaimer, everybody!” It didn’t take long after the article was printed for it to reach Papa Roach, and Shaddix took the high road by sending flowers to Wasner at her New York show with a message that read: “Compassion’s in my nature. From Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach.” Initially thinking she was being set up for a joke, Wasner posted a photo of the flowers on Twitter with the message, “OK fess the F— up, WHO DID THIS?? Is this for real??” Papa Roach tweeted back, “Yes it’s for real. Those are some pretty flowers! Haha all good girl … Take care and good luck in this crazy biz we call show! Jacoby.” According to Brooklyn Vegan , after receiving the confirmation, Wasner shared with the audience at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg, explaining, “Tonight is a very special night. While tweeting back and forth with some of his followers, Lethal let loose with a number of barbs against his former mates. Theprp.com reports that the conversation started with the Lethal digging in on the news that his old band’s new single was going to be ‘ Pain .’ He stated, “Don’t get me started. ‘Pain’??? Really. Come on. LP is making better songs. R&Bizkit?!??!??? FaCEPALM.” He would add, “I like Linkin Park better than Limp Bizkit. Haaa. At least they still make music, not sell out. I used to rock!?!’ From there he added, “I used to do it for the nookie. I’m lucky I didn’t get an STD. But if I went the Paris/Kim way, you would know. Bad luck.
